Iron Dragon disscussion

I usually ride Iron Dragon to see the wait for Top Thrill Dragster...

I agree that Iron Dragon has a ton of potential, but it's the perfect "middle" ride for kids. It's a great first "big ride" for kids. The OTSR on it makes a big difference for a little kid too. I remember being afraid of it because of that alone when I was younger.

There are grown people that are afraid of the OTSR's.

So are you going to make a ride discussion about every ride at the Point? Just wondering because you have made one for DT and this one and I think mabey another one.

Does it matter? Its the off season, not much going on. Its something to talk about. Just conversation. Not a big deal..

Greg

True.

Let's Get Weird.

I liked ID back in the day better. I just don't think the paint job goes with the ride. But, it still surprises me sometimes. I hadn't ridden it in about three years and went on it this summer because I had some CP newbies with me. I was surprised by some of the drops and transitions just because I remembered it as boring. LOL!! It'd be more fun (and easier to get in and out of) without the OTSRs.

Iron Dragon is one of a few rollercoasters our whole family will ride. My wife just don't like big rides. My daughter (16) just finally got onto Magnum this year.

Iron Dragon is a family ride. Not too fast and scary, but has some interesting elements (My stomach drops on the first hill, and the end is fun, yet I ride TTD & MF)

That's whats so great about Cedar Point. A variety of rides.

I'll tell you one thing that needs to be fixed or something done to it- the lift. O my gosh that lift is the slowest thing I have ever seen. It seems every year it gets slower and slower. I personally have no clue why it just starts the lift fast but halfway up it just completely slows down to like a crawl. But then magically it speeds back up again. It is just toatlly weird and I think it needs to be fixed very soon.

I hate the auto-spiel.

Yea, put my ditto in there as well. I like this ride at night better some reason. Sometimes it seems to run faster than others? And I really liked the paint job! We can't seem to agree on visuals Tim :p

Magum50, this is purely a guess on why the lift runs slow and then speeds up but I would say it has to do with where the other train is on the course.

Kinda like on MF.

Exactly. If you ride ID during a 2 train operation, you don't get the slow ascent on the first hill.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

Yep, when going up the lift, the train sometimes comes to a complete stop for less than a second then starts moving up again. This gives the train ahead of it to get up and over the second lift. MF does this as well when it starts to move faster when it gets about halfway up the hill. It's cool how they do this.

If you've ever been on Dualing Dragons, at Islands of Adventure they regulate the lift speeds big time to get the trains right next to each other.

The lift on ID has done that ever since opening day of its first season. It doesn't need "fixed".

I read that they weigh the trains to help the timing of the collision points.

Topgun at Kings Island does the same thing on the lift hill.

^You beat me too it! ;)

This year when I rode Iron Dragon, there was no mist in the ending, which was sort of a let down, that being the best part of the ride and all...

Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~

The whole thing with Iron Dragon's trains slowing, I'm fairly certain, is merely due to the blocking. It's the same way with Cedar Creek Mine Ride.

I never thought that the speed up on the MF is when the previous train hits the station. Maybe that explains the time it paused on the lift and the dogs started up. That was a cycle i won't soon forget.

That POV reminds me of why I didn't like the addition of the Dragster. It killed the whole midway, imo.

Iron Dragon did miss the boat on the potential meter, but it is a great "family" coaster and plays an important role for the park. The only thing i would change is the color.

The block system is the reason why the trains slow down on the first lift hill.

I'm not quite clear after the last 6 posts, so what exactly is the reason for the trains on ID slowing down on the first lift hill? ;)

This topic is about ID but TOPGUN only has two trains and still slows down near the top of the hill. So does it really have to do with blocking?
