Interesting Start to Dateline

Did anyone else notice that all the rides shown were from CP?
I personally encourage each person on this board to write a mean nasty letter to NBC on putting the world's safest amusement park's rides on a show about dangerous amusement park rides. :)

I'm starting mine now....at least saying that Cedar Point is COMPLETLY safe....nto to mention I believe Ohio has pretty tight laws.
Refer to this topic to hear my rantings about Dateline's false representation of Cedar Point and it's rides.

I know, most of them were from CP, and they make it look like it was the park's fault. The damn kid stuck his foot out when it started to move, that is lets see RIDER ERROR! I'm sorry about your son lady, but you got your money so SHUTUP!

She said that putting a kid on heavy "machinery" is very dangerous, the ride was over anyway! Some people!!!

By the way, does anyone know if CP reports it's "VERY FEW" accidents?

I was also peeved with her statement at the end about putting kids on heavy machinery.
Well I sent my nasty email! :o) I don't understand why NBC would use a park that is all the way across the country to advertise about when no rides from this park were at fault in the story that was reported.

:) The last reported accident was last year (or was it '99) when Corkscrew's chain broke and grazed a *few* passengers and gave them very minor injuries. Just scratches.

I just sent my e-mail to them. That totaly sucks about them using CP footage. If I do recall, CP has a clean safty record. Sure there was the Corkscrew chain and all, but I'm talking about serious injuries because of the park.

Not to mention...Cedar Point DOES report them :)
Yeah...it was in 1999. Just before I joined this site in fact. I hadn't heard anything about Corkscrew's breaking until I saw a thread about it here. That was back in the UBB days.
Cedar Point reports any 'incident' that is considered "major".

The definition of a "major" incident is one involving medical attention OUTSIDE of Cedar Point's own medical facilities.

They also tend to put out press reports on a few instances even if it is all minor stuff, just to help show people how safe the park really is.

I as well did not like her comment about heavy machinery. If all she is asking is it be mandotory for parks to report accidents to the state or federal government I don't see a problem with it. However, there is a lot of gray area there and some know-nothing may tac on a bunch of other things we don't need.
