Interesting New Possibility

This link was posted on RRC, and it is something to think about.

Notice the three footers for the main tower, and the direction of the crossbeam supports (they match up with the supports delivered.)

While I think a rocket coaster is what we will see next year, I think it is interesting to look at other possibilities. This way we do not get so "sure" of ourselves that we look stupid when the announcement is given.

This isn't really a possibility since the Track that arrived is from Intamin AG. Unless Stengel, Werner Stole Intamin's track design.

Stengel designs the majority of Intamin rides. Actually, by having Stengel and a Cleveland engineer involved in this, this has me believing THIS is the new ride.

Stengel designed Millennium Force along side CP P&D.

What I don't quite get is how you apply for a patent for this. It's just another variation of what has been done whether it be a Hypersonic or Volcano type of ride. Jeremy? You're the USPTO guru here...

This Image sums up the design pretty well. My head hurt after trying to to decipher all that but the images made it clear.

Basically he is patenting the design of this insane thing. They shoot you up a tower where at the top the train is held, rotated, then dropped down one of 3 sides. One of the sides returns to the station while the others can go through an alternate course and return to the tower, where then it can use the course to return to the station.

The next image shows a case where two towers are used that can make an abundance of different types of rides. In theory they can set it to a program which you can never get off :). This sounds pretty fun.

Joe E., thats a great image. Agreed that it did sound kind of confusing at first, but it does look like a really neat ride. If you think about it now, there are 3 different courses that the ride takes. Thus, three different colors. I am not one to usually start rumors or anything, but, this red white and blue thing might actually be a possibility. Oh well, only time can tell, but I think I might want one of these instead of a Rocket Coaster.------------------

While it is very interesting to examine that patent, I highly doubt that this is the new ride. First of all, notice the date on the patent - August 1, 2002. I would assume that the patent would be filed way before the ride is even under consideration to be built at a park. Also, if you look at the diagram of the track, it is definitely not Intamin box track, like we have at CP right now. Those are just two of several reasons why this idea of Stengel's would not be the new ride.

Of course that doesn't mean that this thing would be INSANE to ride! :)

That looks pretty cool, but I don't think this is what CP is getting. Like said before, I think that patent would have been obtained long ago.

Who finally met the infamous Magnum Dan!

I remember hearing about something like this at IAAPA last year or the year before.

It alows riders to select one of 3 different track routes to take. Kind of like the Vekoma Tilt, except there is more than one way.

And the patent was filed before this year:

...not to mention CP doesn't get prototypes...

June 28th: LocoBazooka Tour (Sevendust headlining)
July 11th: Korn, Puddle of Mudd, and Deadsy

Whos to say they never will?

It's not a good business decision to buy technologies that have yet to be proven, and proven reliable. See the nightmare Six Flags went through with the 4-D and Deja-Vu fiasco? Cedar Fair would never try to pull something like that off.

The way I interpret it...I don't think there's a choice as to what track you ride on. It looks like it goes up the tower, rotates then drops the train backwards down rail 2 then up rail 3, then back to 2, then back up to 3 (sort of like a Deja Vu) - going through the loop 3 times. Then the tower rotates and sends the train back to the station.

This looks like a VERY interesting ride...though track alignment would be very critical. I don't think we'll see it for '03 though.

This kind of ride in my mind would take a lot of room. Somthing Cedar Point doesn't have a problem with now, but could by putting a ride like this in. Because if I am reading this right, its like putting in 3 different rollerocoasters. Yes, I would like to see it done, but I just don't see it happing at Cedar Point right now.

Also, I would have to say this is a very high risk ride to put in anywhere. So many things could be worng with the first few trys of making this rollercoaster(just like 4D's). But I would still like to see it done.

VertiGone... and see what happened?

No, Millennium Force and Magnum weren't prototypes just because they were the first to go past xxx height. I've seen that argument before and, quite frankly, the people that say that aren't too bright in the head. ;)

The closest I'll ever get to riding a B&M Flyer is looking down while on Raptor... :(

VertiGo is a case in point of why Cedar Point doesn't want any prototypes...it was disastrous, and could have been much worse.

Yeah, and CP never builds a major ride two years in a row.

Yeah, thats what the 'Real Enthusiasts' say. It wasn't disastrous becuase of an error on CP's part, but because of an error on S & S's part.

Not for nothing but this "newly patented ride" isn't completely unrealistic. If in fact CP is building something like this with two towers, it makes more sense that they would let the anniversary of Sept. 11th pass before making an announcement of a ride which contains the significant features of two towers.

Of course, that is quite a stretch.

I agree chief wahoo. That makes perfect sense. And going with the two towers thought, I think anything in November is too close to the release of The Two Towers (sorry, just had to say that). I don't think they will get this new type of ride not just because it has never been tested, but because of the public not know what it will do (its quite obvious what a Millennium Force can do...). My best guess for an announcement is late September (the 23-30) or early October.
