Info on MF Breakdown?

Hi I went to the Point on Tuesday.. I had a great time! Except I couldn't ride Millennium Force. It was shut down almost all day Tueday. (I couldn't ride it on Wednesday because there was sever thunderstorms with tornado watches) ... Anyways, does anyone know what happened or if it was something serious like the cable breaking? (I doubt it though).

Well im gonna go ahead and venture my EXPERT opinion on the matter..

having absolutely NO connection whatsoever with Intamin, but an avid CP Season-pass holder, I feel as if I may be so bold as to inform you that, unfortunately, something....wasnt working right. :(

NOT TO WORRY, HOWEVER!

Sometimes, rides fail to meet certain.... "working" criteria, which may cause temporary downtime.

On wednesday, well, you kinda answered your own question. Heavy rain/lightening/storms/tornadoes will effect many, if not all, of the larger rides at a park, especially a place like Cedar Point.

Odds are you were just there at a bad time, something wasnt working, but I havent heard anything big about it, so your guess would be as good as mine.

Probably just something minor and it should be up again soon.

Actually, its Thursday and I just checked the CP webcam, and MF is running again already.

When I was there MF kept getting stuck at the top of the lift for about 10 mins at a time.
I see. *Sigh* I guess I have to wait quite a while to go to CP again seeing as I like 4 - 5 hours away from it. Who knows, maybe I can persuade my family (or relatives) to bringing me again! ;) lol. Thanks for the info though.

Coasters don't get stuck, they get stopped.

Well, they occasionally get stuck. That one in Belgium got stuck. There have been Boomerangs that got stuck. Jaguar out at Knott's got stuck when someone's jacket got caught in the wheels. It does occasionally happen.

But most of the time they just get stopped.

(Remember, all generalizations, including this one, are false.)

Not to mention, im pretty sure that the Demon in Paramount's Great America has been stuck. I remember seeing it on the news, the ride had stopped in one of the corckscrews, as an axle broke.

I'm pretty darn sure that counts as stuck too.

Maybe they just become temporarily motionless.
Correction time...

It was the Demon, but it was at Six Flags Great America (Illinois) NOT Paramount's Great America (California).

My understanding is that the axle did not break. Instead, the last axle on the train detached from the train, allowing the back end of the last car to drop between the rails.

My conclusion based on the press reports at the time and on the modification made to Arrow looping coaster trains after the incident (the addition of a safety bracket on the last axle) was that the castle nut on the roll axis pin for the last axle of the train was not properly secured. The nut worked loose, and the axle fell off.

How much inspection do they do every morning? I know they visually inspect the track, chain, train but do they hand check bolts or is there a rotating system for doing that check (like monday morning, check all the bolts on the lift, tuesday check the second hill and train 1 etc.)
Obviously Arrow fixed it after it happened, but was it something that could have been prevented with proper maintenance.

Didn't DT get 'stuck' on a basketball?

I went on 8/6 and MF broke down 2 times. Once in the morning and the other time between 3-4. I was watching it from TTD's line and they would send a train up and it would always stop near the top of the hill. Werid...
Eh, I knew it was ONE of those dastardly Demons, just wasn't sure which one.

I say that'd suck being stuck upside down for that long of a time.

I heard from a buddy of mine that said that something from the Hydraulics bursted causing the ride to be down.
Shawn, does your buddy work for Cedar Point maintenance or something? If he/she doesn't, I'm going to find it hard to believe that he/she actually knows information about the breakdown...
Also, it sounds like your friend might be getting its breakdown confused with Dragster..

LOL, the hydraulics at Millennium Force bursted.

I heard Wicked Twisters cable broke. :)

OK smartasses... Millennium Force does have a hydraulic motor.

I hope you like the taste of your shoes.

me?

Whaa.... I was just saying that TTD has had numerous problem with IT'S hydraulics, that usually people only associate those two..

To find someone who knows their stuff well enough to know that MF also uses hydraulics, is a rarity.

I know darn well MF has a motor, I was just saying that maybe he wasnt aware of it, because no one has said FOR SURE that that was in fact, the problem in question, so..... it couldve been anything, who knows.

Yes, MF's motor is in the front car of each train.
