Info On Camping Village

Hi Everyone. I'm new here and need your input on the camping village. I belong to several camping forums (specifically pop up campers) and was wondering what you think about the Campers Village.

It's been many, many years since I camped there and remember it as being a great place. Any good/bad responces would really be appreciated.

Thanks.............Starcraft Dad

I have reservations for a full hookup site in the new section from 5/18-5/24. I'll post a trip reprt when I get back to give some more specifics. We stayed in a Lighthouse Point cottage last fall and spent some time checking out the campsites in anticipation of buying our pop-up this year. The sites in the older section have electric/water, while the newer sites have electric/water/sewer/cable. All sites are nice, but the new ones are top notch. Very clean.

Hope this helps-Jason

I've only stayed in the older section of Camper Village twice, but I think the facility is very nice. The sites are kinda small, but I don't spend much time there anyway. I really only go back to the site for meals or a midday rest. The new Lighthouse Point sites are nice, but lack the tree cover that the Camper Village sites have. In time the trees will grow, but it is rather sunny over there right now. The bathrooms are cleaned often, and the hot water in the showers actually works (unlike some campgrounds I have been too :)) The price is somewhat high compared to other campgrounds I've gone to, but the conveinence of being on the pennisula is worth it. I would often come back to the camper to eat lunch, which saves a lot of money with the price of drinks and food in the park. The other perk I like with Camper Village is that you get into the park earlier than the general public. If you have a season pass, it's even better because very few people who stay in the resorts have season passes. The line at the resort gate for season pass holders is usually very small compared to the general ticket line. Overall I would recommend staying at Camper Village. I also recommend you reserve you site before-hand because the campground fills up pretty quick, especially on weekends.

just to clarify that the older section of camper village has ELECTRIC hook up only there is no water sewer or cable... the only sites that have electric water sewer and cable are the new full hook ups ....
I LOVED the times I spent at Camper Village. In June it can be a bit "buggy", but, what the heck, you are camping! CP does it's best to make your stay enjoyable...wherever you stay.

I haven't camped at Lighthouse Point yet. I hear it is nice. The older campground is acceptable but pricy for what you get. The convienence is what you are paying for.

I would make a suggestion that you stay at Bayshore Estates campground. It is a quarter-mile from the Point and does have a shuttle bus to drop-off/pick-up. Full hook-up and excellent security. Meticulaously cleaned bath houses. This is where we always stay. Best of all, you can usually get reservations at the last minute and its about half the price of staying on Point. Good luck and have fun!

Your correct Point4Life...

Bayshore is where we stayed last year. It was my first time up at CP and we stayed at a great place, so that was even better.

But yeah, Bayshore is cheaper, nice bathrooms, a shuttle to CP, plus more.

That's where we are staying this year in June.

Bayshore might be cheaper, but there are railroad tracks right across the road. I wouldn't want to wake up to train horns/whistles at two in the morning.

Well yeah, there are railroad tracks right beside it, but when I was there the train did not bother me one bit. So I guess it just depends on how good of a sleeper you are.

Not one time did I wake up because of the train.

So... do whatever you want to do.

Sounds like a "Conrail Quality" Campground to me. Even you don't like those trains some people do. To me it sounds like a nice place to stay also to do some train spoting when I'm not hitting those Gravity Powered Railroads at CP. Nothing like waking up to the Sound of a Amtrak Genesis Superliner in the morning. :-)

Why does CP only have one Bird of Prey and a whole bunch of Sea Gulls?

It's never bothered me either. It's all in what your used to in camping. If you want away from the noise, you'll have to get away from Sandusky all together. At Camper Village, you have the rides running and the noise that goes with it. At Bayshore you have an occasional train. On a scale of one to ten, the noise issue at either place rates a 1 as far as a nusiance goes. Its a non-issue.... If the noise from either place bothers anyone then they have no business camping or spending time in an amusement park.

Try both and see which one you like the best. We will be there on the 10th and 11th.

Some friends and I are going to be spending the night at East Harbor State Park in a couple of weeks. It's a little farther away, but state parks tend to be a little better when it comes to tent camping (non-electric sites away from the RV's).

I've got a question about Bayshore. Does it fill up a lot? I'm sure it's pretty tough to find a place to stay this time of year, but I'm thinking about making an impromptu trip this weekend and I need a quick cheap place to sleep. I'll be travelling alone and using the place for sleep only, and I'm bringing my small tent. Anyone know the availability at Bayshore, or have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I've never seen it full, but give them a call. I think you can make reservations online too, or you used to be able to.

we went last year and had a trailer and got the full hookup sites by lighthouse point. that was great, pool very nice can go over on the boardwalk. we downsized to a pop-up and the first time we went this year we had a back-in site in the original area. we were a little dissapointed that they have not changed anything since the 80's but was clean. was nice that we could use the sandcastle pool which was less busy than the lighthouse pool. you don't stay at the campground too long since there is so much to do. we are going this weekend and plan on having a blast!!!

We have taken our starcraft pop-up there for the past tow years and we love it. It's really neat camping near all the coasters. I love to wake up early and watch the rides as they start their early morning test runs. Plus, getting in line right before closing and staying after the park closes is cool. Anyway, I don't know if this will bother you, but this past June, we had a site that backed up to soak city, and they kept the lights on all night, so the inside of our pop-up was pretty bright inside. It didn't bother us, but you could end up getting a site like that. And yes, the sites are small, but for what you use it for, they're just fine. The bathrooms are kept up nicely, too. To sum it up, CV gets a positive review from me.

4 summers of employment in ride operations does stuff to you.

We've stayed at both Bayshore and Camper Village and would choose Bayshore. Camper Village isn't worth the extra money for us because we have Platinum Passes so we get in early anyway. Both are nice and clean so you won't go wrong either way, it's just what you are willing to pay and the convenience you want.

Heh, I remember one coastermania when you guys camped in Camper Village, Lori.

We went to have lunch and a beverage or 6 and everyone wound up falling asleep, but waking up to Magnum's obnoxiously loud trim brakes.

It's nice to be able to walk back and nap, but Bayshore is where it's at.
