Improvement made to Bon-Air section of Breakers...

I was checking out the rates on the CP website and it looks like the older section of the hotel has made some improvements according to the pictures. New beds, that look pretty nice.

That is probably the most bizarre design coordination of colors and materials I have seen at a hotel in a while. It does not go with the walls, couch or carpet at all. But it is good to see they are upgrading the rooms.

I've been looking at rates the last couple of weeks because some friends and I are looking to stay a couple of nights May 30 - June 1. Prices aren't looking too outrageous. I'm using the return guest promo code and can get a lakeview suite for $343 for two nights. On a cheaper note a room with two double beds in the Bon Air section for $176 for two nights. I've stayed in Bon Air once before and last year booked a room in Bon Air but they put us in a great room in Breakers East. I'm thinking this year we'll go for the lakeview suite.

Those decent rates don't last long though. I looked at rates for the following week and they jump quite significantly. That same lakeview suite goes up to $479 for two nights and the Bon Air room goes up to $287 for two nights.

I can't see paying $287 for a room in that wing, even if the floor was gold plated. For people who enjoy nice hotels, and are willing to pay for them, that's the struggle. They can charge what they do anyway, because someone will buy it.

Being that there is no historical significance to that wing, and the hotel as a whole lost landmark status years ago, it should have been razed. Jeff is right, location, location, location. There will be people willing to pay to stay onsite. However, it's bad enough the newer rooms are over priced.

Every year since 1989, I've stayed for a weekend in the Breakers as part of my yearly visit to the park. Last year was the first time that I stayed in the Bon Air section and I was appalled by the furnishings and the rooms. Even the old pink bed blanket had holes, was worn and tattered, and the satin trim was halfway ripped off.

I happened to take a couple pictures in the bathroom which should give you a good idea of the condition and decor that I saw:

Wow that is bad! That would be something I'd expect to see at one of the motels on Cleveland road not in a room at a so called "resort".

It's one thing to get nice paper for a Victorian type look but not paper that looks to belong in an orange carpeted grandma's basement :)

Wow. That makes the $86 per night I'm paying in Camper Village worth every penny. If that's what you CAN see in the room, imagine all the things you CAN'T see. Disgusting.

We always stay in Breakers but our discount code RETURN is not working. Does that mean the rooms are sold out or is there a different code we could use?

The promotion could be over. I could be wrong but I thought it was only for the month of May.

Sometimes you're better off with out the codes anyway. I have never used them because it limits what rooms it gives you and you might be able to get a better deal with out the code. The last code i had , and didnt use, expired on memorial day so maybe your's did too?!?

Bon-Aire wing needs to go. How long do you continue nursing it along?? The Rotunda is about the only part of the hotel worth saving, if that. They keep putting lipstick on Breakers, but it is just too old and has lost its historical significance without the old sections. And at that, those parts were well worth demolishing at the time. On the other hand, the tower and addition of TGI Fridays is nice. I have enjoyed every visit in the towers section. Very clean, nice concierge on the top floor. And a nice view of the park to boot.

Blue people fly sideways when it rains

One year they tried to put us in the tower and my kids called the room the black Angus sweets. All you could smell were the steaks from Fridays
