Imminent announcement?

Janurary? WTF? Why? The coaster will be complete before then.

And just how many people will actually KNOW how far along the coaster will be before January? Very few GP *I* know were aware a coaster is being built, and of the GP who do know, very few are keeping track of how much is being done on the website. They ALL know none of us will get to ride it until May anyway.

I personally don't see why it matters whether they announce it tomorrow or January.

Here's my guess on the January announcement thing... if they announce it then. [ Unlike several others, I have no "inside hookup" that ensures me it's in January, or November, or anytime for that matter. ;) ]

I believe OldCPer is right about most of the General Public not knowing a new ride is being constructed. Not that this was scientific in any way, but I asked about 30 people at work if they heard about the new ride, and all asked me to describe what I knew as they knew nothing. (Of those 30, 2 expected a new ride in the Cedar Point tradition of something new every year.)

But the whole point of the park is getting revenue from the General Public. Remember years ago when Cedar Point would run ads on TV just before the season would end with the child sitting on the sled, having absolutely no fun? It was an attempt to get last-minute visits from people before the season was over.

I think something similar would be backing an announcement in January. It's the mid-west: there will be snow, ice, wind, cold weather around... most of us will miss the days of summer, and wish we could somehow get through winter a bit faster. This is perfect timing for Cedar Point. With most people "depressed about winter" so to speak, they'll announce the latest scream machine at the park to an audience eager to get into summer. With opening day 4 months down the road, people will begin making plans to visit the park to ride the latest thing.

If it were announced now, it wouldn't have as much impact on those same people. We just left the 2002 season and have had our fun for the year (well, the general public has, anyway). No one's concerned about vacation plans for mid-2003. They're focused on now. Right now they're concentrating on Thanksgiving and Christmas: buy gifts, make holiday plans, figure out a way to not gain 10 pounds from eating turkey and ham and etc.

Of course, I could be way off in my guess or analysis of this... I'm guessing like everyone else. Just remember, when trying to figure out Cedar Point's moves in anything they do, it's about getting revenue, and the majority of that doesn't come from the enthusiasts... it comes from the General Public. Hence, everything revolves around them.

Wow, very well thought out post. This is a great example for others. Please people, take note!

I want to add on to part of what you said. People are thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas. What better gift than a season pass to Cedar Point, where they are building what might be the biggest ride on the planet?

I don't have any reason to think it will be announced before or after the holidays but I can't think of a good reason why they wouldn't do it BEFORE and push the season passes for gifts. It seems like it would be a missed opportunity.

I just found this announcement on the Six Flags Website. It's dated today. Is this what CP was waiting for?
OK, take or leave this.....

I just got off the phone with Season Pass office. During quick causual conversation, she said "Probably will hear an announcement in after the first of the year...."

Scripted response to the question? Hmmmm.....

I doubt Cp would be waiting for that....But might be, it wants to be the last one to announce the ride and stand on top of other parks. I know there is no competition with SFMM and CP.

Okay, off topic of the announcement but S: TE is not the fastest coaster on the planet now is it? Isn't the one over in Japan faster, and no I do not mean SD 2000? The coaster in question goes 107mph so it beat 100mph of S: TE

Let's play a game. How many mis-truths and lies can you pick out of that Six Flags web page :-)
No! Don't post them all, you'll bog down Jeff's server! :)

(Who is fully aware that that isn't possible, but was said for comic relief)

Thanks Chief Wahoo for the compliment. This'll sound stupid, but somehow I came up with that while taking a shower this morning. Maybe, from now on, when I have some major life decision to make, I should just hop in for a few minutes and think away. LOL.

I didnt doubt an announcment in january....i doubt that CP was waiting for SFMM to announce their coaster.

I very well think the announcment will come around that time.

About the 107 mph roller coaster (someone, please confirm...)

I think this is an air-compression launch coaster in Japan, which has the fastest acceleration (of a roller coaster or anything else that I can think of!) and top speed, reaching 106.7 mph in 1.8 seconds. I'm not sure of the ride's name--if any of this is misinformation, someone please correct me.

...wanting DESPERATELY to go to Japan....

That would be Dodonpa. Not sure if I spelled that right though. You got the stats pretty much right. It was S&S's 2nd thrust air coaster.

Hmmmmm a floorless Batman ride for SFMM sounds like they'er getting desprete for coaster count.

Ch 5 wews clev had a tease tonight11/14 about the newest ride for 2003. they teased it for about an hr and then showed 4 stills right off of the site, of track ,tower (far away)and stuff. With a dribble of information about a NEW ride at CP. no date or anything .It was very genaric, almost embarresing. We Who frequent this site have it together .Its just a matter of time before we ride off into delirious obliviun striaght UP

My wife said they told people to go to their website. This is what they got for their trouble. What a joke.

Why is "desprete?" Have you been on a floorless coaster? I've been on several of them and they're awesome rides. What park wouldn't want one? If Cedar Point doesn't build a record breaking ride are they desperate?

What a shame that NewsNet5 had to link to that lame-ass content-theiving site.

So I can't sple Floorles coasters are great. It's just another cookie-cutter ride for 6 flaggs. not to much originality or R&D. new is better
