Just a friendly suggestion from a web development major :)
I love looking at all the pictures on the site. There are tons of them so I spend alot of time there. But, for me, its really annoying when I click on the picture and the entire page refreshes and the scrollbar resets and goes back to the top of the page, and the Biggest annoyance is when there are alot of pictures and the scrollbar that's going left to right resets and goes all the way back to the left.
My suggestion is, if you have the time to code it, (if not I may be able to help) is make it an IFrame. That way the page wont refresh and the pictures will pop up alot faster. But the main thing is, it will keep the scrollbars from reseting.
Like I said though, just a friendly suggestion from a programming nerd :)

Walt has already said that he is working on a new layout. His busy schedule is slowing the process, but it'll come eventually.

I think Jeff even talked about it in the last podcast.

If there's no page refresh, there isn't a new ad, and without that, we're not making any money to pay for the bandwidth to serve the picture.
And yes, as I mentioned in the podcast, the site is really too fragile to risk breaking at this point.

Well, this isn't going to change your response or opinion, its not meant to anyway.
I have a popup blocker and it blocks all the annoying ads anyway so it doesn't pertain to those people. However, nothing we can do to change opinions. I can see though that its pretty much agreed that its a pain trying to look at pictures; enough to where it would make some not even want to look at them.
I would think you'd get enough page refreshes by how many forums there are and how many people are looking at them, but I guess not.

There have been more than 200,000 photo views in the last 30 days. I'll risk it that you might not want to view them.

Why all the complaining about what this site has to offer? Sheesh, it's one of the better ones out there!
Jeff does a great job coding and Walt does a great job monitoring and adding content. If you don't like it, go away.

I'm not saying the UI doesn't suck, but why it made sense at the time, and why we can't change it right now.

Actually, Jeff, the gallery design for this site never made sense. Between the ad banner, the navigation bar, and the thumbnail bar, there isn't enough vertical space left on the screen for the photo (I'm running at 1024x768), and if there are more than six photos in the gallery, it's @#$! annoying, not to mention nearly impossible to navigate.
Have you thought about ultimately putting really short "previous" and "next" links in place of the thumbnail bar, then putting the thumbnail bar *below* the photo? Even better, have "previous", "next" and "index", so that as an option you click on "index" and get all the thumbnails for the gallery arranged in a grid in place of the photo; click on a photo to go directly to it.
In any case, shifting the thumbnail bar on the page is something you might be able to do short-term without a major re-write, since none of the elements would actually need to change...

With all the great things that came with Pointbuzz two years ago. The photo gallerys have always lacked a layout that was easy to view pictures and a load time that takes forever to load on slower connections.

No offense, but I'd prefer higher quality pics that take longer to load for some, as opposed to the alternative.

Did I mention it's not going to change any time soon?

Nor will bitching about it make a site revision come sooner.

This started as a friendly suggestion, Jeff. I didn't mean for you to get offended by it, as I didn't realize your intentions with the ads and pop-ups. I've ran plenty of sites so I can understand what you're saying about paying for bandwidth, etc. through ads; though I don't agree with it. But, if I don't like it (which I don't) I can go to the other sites (which I do) and look at their pictures without 5 pop-ups per picture.
But, the point is, please don't take it personal. I like this site in some ways and since I do, I decided to try and help with a couple suggestions that I felt would make it a bit better. That's all. :)

My annoyance isn't with you, it's with Gilman. He rarely has anything to say unless it's negative toward me or my sites.

I don't mean to make this come off as being nosey(sp?), but who's Gilman?
