If You Read a Positive Comment About Today's Announcment...Post It Here

Well I think this is a positive move for Cedar Point, even though the out come is losing Paddle wheel. I say lets give the Dinosaurs a chance. I agree with Chief Wahoo when he mentioned that everyone gets pissed over a ride they hardly ever rode anyway until the year the park announces that the ride will be retired. I believe he's got a very positive point there! I want people to answer me on this question.

How many times do you go to the park and actually see a line for Paddle wheel? Whenever I go, I never see a line for Paddle wheel. It's sad that it's being retired but at the same time, give the Dinosaurs a chance! Yes the majority of us on here are thrill seekers, but some members on here have families. I imagine the kids will be excited about this addition. :)

I can think of at least two or three occasions in recent years when I've either waited two or more boats to board, or saw an equally long or longer line and passed on it.

My author website: mgrantroberts.com.

Does a ride have to have a line to be kept? If that is the case...goodbye to the train too. I don't remember the last time I had any significant "line" to wait in. I had to wait for the next train...but there wasn't a line.

As a family man...the fact that there wasn't a line was one of the best aspects of PE. People rode it...even if there wasn't a line.

I think Cedar Point's Facebook page is a pretty good gauge of the overall reaction of the general public. It's not just regulars and enthusiasts on there - and there are almost no positive comments. Red flag, ya think? People just do not want this at CP.

Being upset over an attraction announcement is a yearly tradition at PointBuzz. :)

Not only the FB page but the Sandusky Register page hasn't had a ton of comments but, by and large, they are negative as well.

And, interestingly, most of the Soak City slide reaction has been overwhelmingly positive with comments such as, "it's about time." Maybe they can learn something with both projects.

Walt...you have to admit that this is coming down pretty heavy. Even Windseeker had more supporters at announement than I expected it to. There isn't much question about the majority response on this one.

While I agree that the announcement is really disappointing, remember the following:

  • STR and WindSeeker faced similar uphill battles--public reception was lackluster. However, CP still shattered their attendance forecasts. Clearly not "everyone" hated the new rides, at least not enough to avoid coming.
  • The target audience for this attraction (married with small children, infrequent visitors) is probably least likely to spend their time writing a "support" post on their FB wall. They are either too busy, aren't yet aware, or aren't even on FB. I'd guess many of CP's "likes" are from enthusiasts.
  • CP has hard data on how the dino attraction affects the bottom line. Clearly they consider it a success at KI, especially since it only is costing them $1 million. The average coaster is what, $25 million? It's sure a lot easier to get an ROI on some little dino thing, I'm sure.

Like I said, I'm really disappointed myself, but we can't pretend we didn't see this coming. We all knew it. However, the situation isn't nearly as "dire" we are making it out to be. For better or for worse, CP will probably make a profit out of this investment.

Oh, it's definitely more this year. But not all of it is justified. Even among the negative comments, it's back and forth: "No, it sucks because it's not a coaster." "No, it sucks because it's not a family ride." "Less filing." "Taste great."

So, more? Yes. Still peppered with the same lame complaints? Yep.

But, in most cases they seem to have pleased one segment or the other. In this case?

So, when the Dinosaur's quit working in 2 yrs. because of the general lack of upkeep of any type of theming by CP, will this attraction be called Dinosaur's unalive?

I'm not one that cares one way or another because PWE is leaving. But, I do care about the general lack of originality in the CF chain as of lately. I think a Pirate themed island would have been better. But, that's me and I have absolutlely no input in the CF hierarchy.

When the dinosaurs stop working the attraction will turn into a Halloweekends attraction - Island Of The Dead.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

"It's like what I said in the news forum; I can drive two hours to visit Dinosaurs Alive, ride Windseeker and ride The Beast, or I can drive two hours visit Dinosaurs Alive, ride Windseeker and ride Millennium Force. "

That comment gave a POSITIVE turn to my day.....:)

It was PRICELESS, unlike Dinosaurs alive......$

No one will be there to see the lack of upkeep, because by year two I doubt anybody will pay five bucks to see it anyways. People are barely paying to see it in its first year at KI.

Let's Get Weird.

Then why spend a spend $1 million dollars on it?

Well there is no doubt they will make their money back charging five dollars. I was just saying that its not a huge number of people where the ROI is mind blowing or something like that.

Let's Get Weird.

I was completely expecting this announcement, but after it came, it just confirmed how out of touch and disconnected the Cedar Fair management is getting from its customers...and how they're not thinking through decisions clearly, as if every dollar spent was their own.

I have never been to Canada's Wonderland, and I can't wait to visit. Additionally, as a coaster enthusiast, I usually feel nothing but extreme excitement over the announcement of a new coaster. However, the Leviathan announcement really felt off to me...I was initially excited, and then my mood quickly changed to an angry, confused state upon closer observation.

I have heard about the capacity issues at Canada's Wonderland, and I agree that a new high-capacity roller coaster was a decent idea. But, why build a coaster from the same manufacturer with the same elements, the same trains, the same feel...a slightly larger version of Behemoth...just a few years later? If they wanted to go B&M, why not use one of their alternate styles or incorporate inversions or something different?

Basically, they have just sullied Behemoth...it's like the iPhone 3G after iPhone 3GS was released. Why not make it a flyer, dive coaster, floorless -- something--anything to allow them to co-exist and not be constantly compared to one another? If there was a 230-foot Millenium Force Jr. and Millenium Force at Cedar Point, I imagine I'd just skip Millenium Force Jr. Now Magnum...it's an entirely different feel being from a different manufacturer, with different trains and track, from a different era.

Anyway, after that announcement, I realized CP's announcement would come with equally-shallow thought. It was as if a kid was running the parks..."Gee! Behemoth is a top rated coaster! Let's spend $28 million re-making it, only BIGGER!" ..."Dinosaurs Alive worked at King's Island for a couple months! Let's do what it takes to cram it into Cedar Point, removing any charm in its way!"

Anyway, congrats Holiday World. With the way you care and listen to customers, your future is looking brighter than ever. Cedar Point, you feel so lost and confused right now...

Like everything, this "cloud" has a sliver lining. In my mind, this is a short term loss, long term gain. Look at it like this. They are only spending 1 million dollars (I say it like it nothing, but it is still a lot) and they will make it up with the 5 dollar charge and hopefully more. What does this mean? A new roller coaster. Cedar Point is (crosses fingers) putting in an investment with DA, so in 2013 they can open a new roller coaster. It has been over 5 years since a new roller coaster, and I think Cedar Fair knows they are long due into putting in a new roller coaster. I will hold my tongue, and see how things works out. I will not be surprised to see markers, along with calypso, turnpike cars, and pirate building moved or taken out next year. I know it looks like Cedar Fair lost touch with its customers, but I am pretty sure they all know what anyone wants more is a brand new roller coaster. And since they are not spending an arm and a leg to build a "just okay" thrill ride this year, they are saving up their money to build something bigger and better down the road. I might be wrong, but I do not see Cedar Point going 6 years without putting in a new roller coaster.

I agree with the fact that Cedar Fair has lost some touch with their customers. It just seems like Cedar Fair sometimes just randomly draws a type of attraction out of a bag (like the design for Shoot the Rapids) and then goes with it like it was the best decision they ever made.

But then again, Cedar Fair has put in some unique attractions into their parks where you will not find something like it anywhere around. Maverick, Intimadator 305, Prowler are a couple examples.
