ID for Grand Prix Carts

I am going to Cedar Point tomorrown and my friend is 16 but doesn't have a license or state ID. I was wondering what other kinds of ID do they accept.

1. Millenium Force
2. Maverick
3. Top Thrill Dragster
4. Magnum XL200

Just state id or drivers license.

2007 trips=39..08 trips=47..09 trips=79
maverick rides=143
dragster rollbacks=27

Anybody else think this is dumb? You have to be 16 to ride the "fast" go carts. I have been on way faster go carts in Tennessee that don't care if you bump cars and they just need you to be a certain height. CP's isn't even fast and you have to be 16. Just stupid.

Not really. I heard all the time during my 2 year stint at RipCord the go-kart ride hosts yelling into the microphones for people to slow down, stop, and stop bumping. Mind you, this is people 16 and up. They never listened. CP is not going to pay for someone's medical bills because one guy rammed into another guy and made him flip. It's a safety issue, mostly, and I agree with it 100%. If you can't get a 16 year old and up to listen, you think an eight year old would?

I do not blame them at all. As about 5 years ago the last time I did the GP Carts I was rammed full force from behind and needless to say I had some choice words for the person and was lucky enough to have pain meds on me since the force rammed my knee into something and I was limping out of it. Also that was while someone spun out and the red lights were on. BTW he was kicked out of the ride.

I always remembered them having a switch that killed the cars when the red lights came on until one night i saw one of the ride ops on the loud speaker say, "riders this is your 4th consecutive ride, your lights have been red and you need to stop." Needless to say they didnt stop lol.

They can kill the cars, but I'm pretty sure it makes them stall and then they'd have to go around and restart every single cart before they could go again.

16 is nowhere near old enough for people to figure out how to drive those stupid things. I vote for a 40+ age restriction on Race Park. Either that, or start requiring an IQ test before selling the tickets.

I know this is an old thread, but I didn't want to start another one. Does anyone know the engine size and top speed of the karts on both tracks? I tried the Grand Prix this week and thought they were pretty cool. I didn't try the Sprint Cars yet, since they didn't seem as fast. Thanks for any info you may have.

Just your standard Briggs & Stratton or Honda engine, I know they use both. If I remember correctly, Grand Prix karts go about 27 to 29mph and the Sprint karts go 23 to 25mph. That is of course when they are running good, those go-karts are old.

about tennesee: remember, fireworks are completely legal and unrestricted there also. says something about the attitude of tenneseeans.

At SFGAm they have a yellow light that goes on whenever a cart spins out, stalls, etc. that slows down each car on the track equally. Is this a common feature? It's not like the karts were too fast in the first place.

Just about any go-kart track will have some kind of way to control the karts. It's all about safety.

The Cedar Point carts do not stall when stopped from the control panel. The engine losses power but remains idleing until the track is "turned on" again.

^Well, that's what they're supposed to do, but frequently they'll stall when accelerating after the stop. Also, the yellow/red light system only works when guests pay attention to it, which most don't.

Last year I was waiting for skyscraper and was watching some major roadrage on the Grand Prix. Then a cart took a head-on to the rails, and the lady hops out of the cart and starts walking over to the lady in the little booth on the bridge. None of the employees even noticed till the lady almost got ran over by like 2 carts. It was quite a sight.

In my experience, the only way for go karts to be "fun" is to do them with a big group of people you know so that there are few, if any, people you don't know racing.
