Huge storms last night (7/7/03).

I was at the park for the past 2 days (7th and the 8th) and on the morning of the 8th, riding the train, I saw that there was a WHOLE TREE uprooted and laying on top of Thunder Canyon. Does anyone know if there was any damage to it or anything?

Welcome to Northern Ohio. There's nothing unusual about that.

DELETED! What time does the water show start?

I was at the park on the 7th an there was a convenient showing of Snoopy Rocks right when the storm was blowing in. As Jeff said though, we get our fair share of summer storms here.

I'm in Southeastern Michigan, we get our storms too, do either of you know if there was any damage to Thunder Canyon?
I heard that a pop-up camper in Camper Village was destroyed by the storm. Apparently no one was hurt..thank god.

Now, for all of those people who wonder why they don't allow tents...there is your answer!

Tents wouldn't fly away in a storm if they are staked down correctly and the grouind is firm enough. I don't know what the storm was like or how firm the ground is but i have been tent camping in many storms and my tent didn't budge

I agree. I've been tent camping in a weekend of ALL RAIN though. Thats never any fun! waking up in a puddle of water

The reason reason, at least this is my theory, that they don't allow tents is that they don't want riff-raff in camper village. Its a family park - albeit cheap if you own a camper and can go to camper village.. but if you don't own a camper, you don't have the cheap alternative. Its either pony up for an expensive hotel on site or look off site. Most people choose off site.

I can guarantee you that it doesn't have anything to do with "riff-raff". It isn't unusual at all for a storm to cause over a foot of flooding in the campground. Often times it takes days for the water to recede.

There is plenty of space for tents. If they thought it was safe, don't you think they would milk that for every dollar they could get?

Anyway, there is plenty of "riff-raff" staying in the hotels. You wouldn't believe the number of people who bring their luggage in trash bags and pillow cases.

Also, there is a state park nearby that is much cheaper than camper village and it allows campers, tents, etc. I have stayed there and also at Cp's hotels. Camping can be fun but the Breakers is the place to stay!

of course, we all know what the main midway can be like after a huge rainstorm, I thought of grabbing a soak city innertube and floating down it once...security would not appreciate that though...
