I learned of a proposed year-round indoor theme park with an aeronautical theme in Dayton, OH and think it is a pretty good idea whose time as come. It was posted on costerbuzz.com:

I have always wondered if or when this would finally be tried in the Sandusky area. There are already a lot of year-round indoor water parks. NASA Plum Brook has recently expressed interest in becoming more of a tourism attraction.

The area in general is trying to keep tourism running year-round. Perhaps a similar indoor year-round theme park in cooperation with NASA with a space theme?
What do you folks think about the idea of an indoor theme park? You think CF/CP might ever try something like this?
:)Happy Holidays:)
The rides would last longer as there is no environmental influence to age them. It would be noisy. I went to the Mall of America and saw the Camp Snoopy there and it was very loud in there.
With modern technology, I'm sure they could do things to prevent certain rides from being so loud. Just look, or er...listen to Maverick. Very quiet.

How big could the park really be? Plus, getting sound-proof walls and floor, is going to be expensive. And, how tall would the coasters be? Not very..

best season yet (:

Well, it is possible to have the tallest segments physically leave the building in heated tubes. (Unlike DT, they don't *have* to leak.)
The thing I've always liked about this idea is that psychological scales shrink when you shift from outdoor to indoor settings. You can get away with more tightly packed rides and not provoke claustrophobia. I'm not talking IX Indoor Amusement Park packed, just more of a happy medium.
This type of thing could be built in modular units. As business grows and can justify the investment, slap on another wing. It's the indoor equivalent of adding a new themed area like Holiday World.

I don't think an indoor amusement park would be successful in Sandusky. The only indoor successful parks that come to mind are the Park at MOA, Adventure Dome, and Galaxyland. All three of these parks are part of a larger draw. The mall and casino is the draw. The park is something to do while you're there. What's the big draw to Sandusky in the winter? Snow?
I think, if done right........larger than Cedar Point, it would be a huge success right across from Kakahari. That would really put Sandusky on the map.

Larger than Cedar Point? Dude, what are you smoking? CP sits on a 365 acre peninsula. Do you have any idea of how much the costs for just a shell of a building of that magnitude, not to mention the height, could be!? So basically you're saying build a park basically right down the road to compete with Cedar Point all year, which is a really ridiculous idea. Honestly, think about what you just said. An indoor park bigger than CP (bigger than 365 acres), right across from Kalahari. Would someone happen to know how big the Edmonton Mall is (acreage)? Because I'm thinking that would be about the magnitude that we're talking here.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.
Use your imagination..........if money was not a concern and someone were to build an indoor amusement park larger than Cedar Point, that would be an eleventh wonder of the world. Have you ever heard of indoor ski slopes? Anything is possible for the right price and the right motive.

I dont think there's anyone rich enough to do that.......or at least I cant imagne there would be one who WOULD want to tackel a feat of that immense magnitude.

^Or anyone dumb enough to build such a thing in Ohio. :)

Its not a horrible idea. Just not one totally thought through. A park just big enough to entertain for a day or so would be plenty. Put in central to all the indoor water park/hotels and it could possibly mean keeping people there another day and helping out the economy more.
Bigger than CP, IMO, is out of the question. When CP opens in May attendance at "Generic Name Indoor Amusement Park" would drop. Immensely. Why go ride small roller coasters, flats, and thrill rides in an artificial dome, when you can be in the sun riding world class roller coasters, crazy fun flats, and having a memorable time?

I agree that a small indoor park wouldn't be a bad idea. Its the idea of a park big enough to compete with the Point that I balk at.
