How to NOT be deathly afraid of TTD?

Ok I don't mean to sound like a whimp or anything, I mean I love roller coasters, but I am TOTALLY AFRAID TO RIDE THIS THING. The more I hear, the more afraid I get. Does anyone have any thing to help me????? =O

I know one ride I was just afraid to ride was Power Tower's Turbo Drop. I still am but I still ride it. Going on with a friend helps because while you are standing in line, you will have a small distraction from your impending doom. Also, just telling yourself that it can't be that bad works. I mean, where else can get go up 420 ft.?

K, Thanx. Your information is helping me. I hope my friend Jeff will ride it with me when Honor Society goes.

If you weren't afraid of it, it wouldn't be as much fun.

Just ride the thing. It'll be like every other ride you were orignially afraid of... you're afraid, you ride it, you then wonder what you were afraid of and when you'll ride it again.

18 straight years of real thrills and counting...

just tell yourself that it is a SAFE RIDE. it is a completely controlled environment that is designed to frighten you...

Dragster: 3
Millennium Force: 41
Raptor: 30
Wicked Twister: 12

Suck it up and ride the thing. You will regret it.

Gas for drive to Cedar Point: $25
Ticket to Cedar Point: $43
Drink while in line for ride: $3
Travel 420 feet in the air: Priceless

You should be afraid. Very afraid. This ride could do you in. It could be the last ride you will ever ride. There is practically no way you will survive this ride. What makes you think you'll make it through? Do you really believe you have what it takes to live through an experience like TTD?

Scared? You should be downright TERRIFIED.

First, ask yourself why you are afraid.

If your answer is (a) Too tall, just think, why is that scary? A fear of heights? Looking down on Millennium Force? Then, don't think about it.

If your answer is (b) Too fast, just think again, yes you are going faster than you probably ever will in a car, but so what? You know that several people have ridden this thing (including me) and know that YES, the speed is intense as heck, but that's what makes it fun!

If your answer is (c) The surprise launch, don't worry about it. Get your adreline pumping and ride that thing!

If you don't why your scared, then do what I did. When you see it, just say, "Nothing". When you're in line and watching it run, just say, "Nothing". When you're in the station and just sitting down (this is the most important one), just say, "Nothing". When the restraints lock, say "SOMETHING!" Then panic. It got my adrenaline rushing and that's what I loved. Watching the train in front of me made it worse (meaning better). So basically, once you're locked in, go crazy. It helps. :)

Whenever I get butterflies about something like that, I think of it this way:

How often do I come here and when will I be here next? Do I really wanna miss this chance I have right now? Heck no! If people ask me about this ride, or if I went on it, I wanna be able to say yes! Not, "I chickened out."

Tough, but good =P

It has gotten me on countless rides I have loved :)

Oh yes!!, thank you so m,uch coaster freak for posting this topic, i was just about to, and thanks so much all you guys for helping ppl like me and coaster freak out, im sure it will be the best thing in the world.

Draken - that's why I sat in the front row. ;)

I had to leave the queue to put my stuff in a locker and just as I left the sign said 4 hours and there was a big overflow, but that's as far as the sign went. I knew I wouldn't get another chance that day.

And coasterfreak13, if you sit in the front row and see that green sled comin', get ready!

Here is my story about coasters. At the beginning of the line, I'm always cool. I watch the coaster in operation and patiently await my turn to ride. Near the loading dock, I begin to feel my adrenaline pump from fear. I just say to myself "Nothing bad will happen, no need to worry". When I get onto the loading dock and into the train, fear is very visible. I say that same quote above, but a little louder. But after the first drop (or launch, in case of TTD or WT), the fear just shoots away all of a sudden and I'm screaming and shouting in enjoyment. It always helps to scream and shout (no, not like the Beatles LMAO) while riding a coaster. That tells your fears to go away. Ride TTD. You'll be glad you did. And the only way to conquer your fears is to face your fears. I know I'm riding TTD when I get out to CP next month.

I am not terrified of TTD, but I do have to admit I am slightly concerned after seeing it half built. My game plan, to ride Hypersonic so I am used to intense launches, and then ride MF and WT before I ride TTD (warm ups). The ride is intimidating (no question), but as another poster mentioned, once you get over the fear (which is only in your head), when you get off, you will want to get back in line for another ride.

Tom

I was literally shaking I was so scared when I rode Magnum for the first time. I really did NOT want to ride it, but was riding because my 6 year old son wanted to. The slow climb on the lift hill nearly did me in, but after that drop, I was SO PUMPED! I haven't been that afraid to ride a coaster ever again, although I admit to butterflies with my first rides on MF and Dragster.

I am extremely afraid of heights, so Power Tower is my nemesis. But last year I decided to "suck it up" and learn to ride it. By the end of the season, I was able to ride with eyes open. On opening day, although I was still very nervous, I actually enjoyed it enough to want to get back into line again.

It's all mental, and all conditioning.

No, I believe they twisted and shouted, not screamed and shouted. Then again, they didn't sing that song, they screamed it. As a matter of fact, I do believe that Lennon himself said, "I didn't sing that song I just yelled the damn thing," after performing in front of the queen.

So...the moral of the story is, don't twist while you're on a roller coaster.

I think it would be better to be deathly afraid of it and go on. It may be more fun that way. :)

"Fearsome Four" TTD MF WT RT

I thought the fear is what makes it so great. Or, any "thrill ride" for that matter. I am perfectly content to keep both feet firmly on the ground. I've never, nor do I intend to ever be on an airplane. I cringe at the notion of repairing my roof after one of those 75 mph wind gusts. I hate being up there. But, I take comfort in knowing that a coaster is well anchored. Therefore, I ride as often as possible. So far, in my tenure as a coaster nut, I've grown bored of only one coasterr at CP. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _! (take a wild guess)

In my humble opinion, the only thing TTD is missing is a long slow lift hill. Man, those make for some un-nerving anticipation when you are ascared of heights.

Well i was scarred of this ride. i was shaken to the core! after riding the coaster i realized that the part of the ride that was the worst was the waiting. i was shaking when i got on, i haven't been affraid of a coaster in almost 10 years. once we were in the launch position and those fins went down i remembered why i go on coasters...cause they are sooooo much fun! and this is no exception. My reward to myself is the new Gotnophobia Tee in the TTD gift shop, now i have no phobia's of coasters.

Dont' feel bad about being afraid. I love coasters and was too nervous to ride this beast. Of course.... a 3.5 hour wait made it easier to make that decision! LOL
