How Scary is it?

I am planning to go to the point for halloweekends for the first time, and i was curious how scary it is? I easily scare and have had some very traumatic experiances with other haunted houses:-( Just curious so i can properly prepare myself for the trip thanks!

You had a traumatic experience at other haunted houses yet you would like to attend those at the Point?

You see, when I am traumatized by something I usually try to avoid the situation again. I don't seek out a repeat of it.

However, you can enjoy the park without the serious scares. Ride the rides...don't walk through the haunted houses.

I am more curious as to walking around the park as I have heard that people will jump out at you and such. I am wondering if they do this all over the park or just in certain areas and such?

Wahoo-- I hate that I wont go to haunted houses due tohorrific experiances, I hate sitting at home while all my friends go out and have fun at the haunted houses... so i figured what a better way to get over my fear and "enjoy" haunted houses then to go to cedar point, a place made for families so its kinda like babysteps for me.... And in order to prepare myself Id like to know what to expect........

Cedar Point haunted houses probably aren't as scary as the ones you've been to. Sparty is the resident haunted house expert, he probably can add more to that.

Outside of the attractions, the only place where you have to worry about being startled is along a portion of the Frontier Trail. And that's only when the Fright Zone is open. It's clearly marked. You won't end up in there by accident. Most of the midways are scare-free.

To be honest, the most difficult/scary part of the HH's are:

(1) Walking into walls or other people.
(2) Getting startled when the characters/monsters pop out of nowhere and try to scare you.

As far as the gore, it’s more amusing than scary—unless you’re 8 years old.

Thanks guys!

I actually work at a haunted house, the scariest one in New York. I can give you a few tips on how not to get scared.

1. They ALWAYS scare from the side or behind, so walk backwards so you know whats there, lol jk. but expect them to come from the sides or behind.

2. Alot of times haunted houses will use dummies and have actors stand still, so its hard to pick out who is real. Just expect that they are all real.

3. Don't act scared, if you do they'll scare you even more. At Creepy Cabins, the attraction I worked, someone said they had a fear of clowns at the entrance. Thanks to good old walkie talkies the director told the clown guy and said 'the next girl coming in is afraid of clowns. Get her!'

That may sound mean, but if you are spending 30 days of nonstop work to set this thing up you want people to be scared.

4. They can't touch you, so don't worry about them grabbing your arm or leg.

5. Expect them to be there, and don't get to scared when they pop out.

And as we say at Creepy Camp,

come out, don't break our rotting hearts, as we've uttered before, and shall say forever more, we'll be waiting for you IN THE DARK!

The one in Disaster Transport isn't that bad. I worked it last year, and the attractions are more weird than scary. Just things you might not expect. It's not like gory chase you with a chainsaw kind of stuff. And like the previous poster said - do not act scared. I hate haunted houses, I hate being scared, and I felt really bad scaring other people ... until I saw someone who already looked scared. When your first person rebounds off the wall and runs down the hall screaming, it gets kinda fun ;)

Last year going down Frontier Trail my friend was screaming and carrying on, so of course they chased her. I HATE haunted houses and I hate being scared, but I still went through. When the guys would come up to me, I wouldn't let it phase me, I would just look at them and walk off. This one guy popped up right in front of me and was in my way, so I just nudged him out of the way, don't worry, I didn't push him or shove him or hurt him, I just gently pushed him to the side out of my way. I thought it was kind of funny. If I hadn't moved him, I would have ran into him. ;)

I just remember that they're people in costumes, they can't hurt me. One year at that other horrible park in Aurora, we went on the haunted hay ride, it was dumb. This guy was trying to scare us while in line, and I started talking to him. I told him how hit hat looked like one the majorette's used to wear at my school. It was funny. :)

I find CP's haunted houses/fright zone more fun and amusing than horrifying. Compared to "scary" haunted houses, CP's aren't bad at all.

I'm more amused than scared too. My son finds them boring, so I literally had to drag him into Undertaker U. Everytime someone popped out at him, he'd smirk and say they had to do better than that. I'd bet those who are playing monsters get irritated by that kind of attitude.

I think they are just fun, and am looking forward to Werewolf Canyon

They're not too bad at all. That is of course unless your father decides to scare the crap out of you.

We were in the DT haunted house, walking though and having a good time. Then one of the "screamsters" slipped inbetween my dad and I, and started walking with us. My dad then calls my name and I turn around to look and have a really weird/freaky/unexpected face just inches from mine and I freaked. I still have yet to get him back...but that time is comming. LoL.

Like most others, I too can't wait for Werewolf Canyon.

I have been to every major haunted house in the northeastern area of this state, trust me, you will not have problems at CP's haunted houses. There are hardly even any "monsters" in them at all, most are just static scenes and even they are not scary.

CP's houses are very family friendly so as not to freak out little kids. You will be just fine. Halloweekends are the best time of the year at CP if you ask me. The whole autumn atmosphere is really cool.

Amanda: Go to the web site and look at some of the "screamsters" ... the mask that get's me is the "pig" one...well, there are two of those. They look hideous!!! My son is 11 and I don't know if he'll walk through "Fright Zone" with me this year or not.

My daughter's friend REALLY freaked out when one of the screamsters started calling her name and chasing her...she to this day has no idea how "it" knew her name...but she was freaked out by it. ::laugh:: It's kinda funny though, because she is a person who likes to be scared! Hehehe

Personally, I haven't attended any of the haunted houses or Fright Zone. I don't get into being scared. However, one of the ghoulies on the midway at night (they are in plain sight) decided to chase me with his axe...hehehe....I started to run...and when I paused to look back to see where he was....he was even closer....I got it all on video tape...even me say "Oh crap...he's right there!" and laughing the whole time. The part I like best...well, second best is the ghoulies when they dance on the midway...I like to do the "Electric Slide" with them! hehehe The other thing I like BEST is the show in the glass blower theater...the story of the "Tell Tale Heart" by Edgar Allen Poe.....the man has this recited to a "T"......and he even has the looks of a "madman"....it is SUCH a great show....this man makes you truly believe you are at an insane asylumn!!! Don't miss that show!!! The magic shows are pretty cool too!

But you see...I enjoy all of this....but at times I think, "I dunno." I am very much Christian...and get mixed feelings about the whole "Halloween/weekends" thing in general!!! I just don't know...I like the pumpkins, and the hot cider. I think dressing a bit crazy is the perfect time ... example: the big hats, funky clothes, wild make-up...of course no full fledged costumes are allowed at Cedar Point...but there are still some crazy stuff you can do to yourself to look a bit outrageous. THAT is the part I like about Halloween...the part where you can get original, and people won't think too much about it because it's that time of year!

By the way... you might notice me there with my "glo-stick" tongue ring sometime. I think it's snazzy. I can't wear jewelry on my skin because I break out....but I can wear it in my muscle...hehehe. Anyway....got QUITE off topic!!! SORRY!!!!!!!

Don't be scared... it's ok! ::smile::

I'm not sure how Cedar Point sets up their houses. But I always keep my eyes on the walls. Typically haunted houses will use wood or thick cardboard, painted black, to set up the path for people to walk through. If you happen to see a spot where the solid wood ends and there is a black curtain there, there is a good chance someone is waiting behind it and will try to pop out and scare you. If you see one of those, smile and give the person a friendly wave and walk on; chances are they won't bother you if you already spotted them.

Of course I'm one of those people that ruins the fun of haunted houses. I wave and say hi to people. I pick them out before they can do anything. I also try to have odd conversations with them to get them out of character (like a lady dressed as a witch asking me if I wanted to see her pet and her pet could eat me...I told her my dog would eat her pet, and then I started going on about how my dog is fat and everything). I mainly go into haunted houses for the strobe lighting and black lights :D those are fun.

I went to 3 HW and everytime it is a blast! I don't like the Haunted Houses but the park is almost empty on Sunday's and there are no lines only on MF and TTD. CP isn't all haunted stuff during HW. Its just a few haunted houses, some themeing around the park, and Fright Zone at night. So if you don't like being scared then have fun on CP's 68 rides.

TTD: 1; WT: 9; MF: 4; Mantis: 3; Raptor: 6; Mean Streak: 5; Magnum: 5

Some themeing?

Try another word.

Anyways, I enjoy the atmosphere more than the haunted houses, but I must say that the magic show put on by Aaron Radatz is very cool, considering it's location, he does an excellent job every year...and again, as everyone else said, it's not just about haunted houses, in fact, those make up a minority of the halloween things to do and see..have fun on your trip!

I gotta say Metallica man, even as a 'haunter' its funny to have conversations with people.

I love doing it not to scare people and make them permantly damaged from fright but MOOST Of the people who enter do want to go through, and people just laugh the ENTIRE way, its all about fun. Teenages girls come it, and I say 'you better hurry up or that booty is mine'

I remember someone said "get your hand off my ass" and i was right behind them and they didn't know it and i yelled "we don't say the A word in this haunted house" They ran of laughing hysterically.

I think what really freaks people out the most is not when the screamsters come out of the fog out of nowhere, but when the screamster(s) start following you everwhere...
