How long could you ride for a new car?

I live near Valleyfair in Minnesota. Over the past week or so, they along with a local radio station, have been sponsoring a contest where 36 people won a spot on the Wild Thing after being the 101st caller into the radio station at the prompted time. Anyway, they put everyone on The Wild Thing last Monday and the last one left riding wins a new car! I was actually one of the qualifying contestants but had to drop out before it started due to personal reasons…yeah I was really bummed. Anyway, I got to thinking, if a contest like this were held at Cedar Point (where we visit every year), what rollercoaster would you be willing to ride over and over for a new car? How long do you think you could last? Oh yeah, by the way, you’d have to sleep in the car, couldn’t talk to your friends or family, no changing your clothing, you have to eat when they say you can eat and what they give you to eat, drink when they give you a drink, and go to the bathroom only when the judges say you can. I’d say, put be on TTD and let me at it. I could hold my own for at least a couple weeks? J By the way, the contest at Valleyfair is still going tonight…two out of the 36 original contestants are still riding nine days later! They’ve done the circuit over 1,500 times, haven’t showered, brushed their teeth or changed their clothes since last Monday morning. Absolutely crazy!
I have been on Steel Force at Dorney Park, which is similar to the Wild Thing and I would have to say that I could ride that coaster for nine days easily. If this contest was held at Cedar Point I think they should make it more difficult. I believe that doing this type of contest on the Mean Streak would result in a much quicker contest. I'd like to see people try to ride the Mean Streak for nine days. I don't think that would ever happen because that would tear your body apart after a few hours.

278 coasters and still counting!

Dragster would be too easy, you would be sitting in the station, buckled in, for 23 hours a day. ;)

I think that the most difficult ride at cp would be Mantis. Rough and nauseating, as well as dizzy-ing(?).

I think I could do Magnum for a couple of days, but I wouldn't like to ruin my favorite coaster. I would just hate to get the lap-bar too tight on any of the mechanical lap bars (well, all lap bars are mechanical, but the lap-bars unlike the new intamins where they do not have set locking positions.)

So I would say the coaster I would want to do it the most would be MF. Comfortable and not boring.

well Disaster Transport would be cool. Sence it has A/C and is in the dark.

Iron Dragon no problem

Dragster wouldn't be good and easy. Do you know how hard that would be to sleep on that?

I think MF would be the easiest and most comfortable. I could do a few weeks on that. I agree with TopThrill420 that Mantis would be the hardest. That is definatly the most uncomfortable coaster at CP. Mean streak would be tough to, but at least your sitting down. I also agree with johnz that TTD would be very hard to sleep in. The seatbacks are not shaped well for the average hight person if you'd be trying to sleep in them.

One question I would have would be this: Do you get to readjust the lapbars and seatbelts everyonce in a while?

I think wicked twister would be one of the hardest because you would just be going back and forth and that would make you dizzy.

MF would be the easiest because its a smooth coaster. *** Edited 6/23/2004 2:58:13 PM UTC by cpJakecp***

MF's seats are hard and hurt your ass if you sit in them too long. I did an hour and couldn't take much more.

Mine Ride, hands down. Used to take naps on it in the spring while breaking it in.

I was in the television commercial for Raptor back in '94 and we had to ride it continuously for about 4 hours with minimal breaks starting at 6am on a frigid early May morning. After awhile, when you hit the final spin at the end of the ride you felt like your stomach was in your feet. But I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

The Amazement Park

Dragster would be kind of fun, but it would be very hard if not impossible to sleep on. At least the seats are kind of comfortable on TTD. I could ride Iron Dragon for money and maybe Magnum.
I could ride WT for a month and not be phased.

The only rides that would be unfun are as mentioned above, Mantis and Mean Streak. I don't even bother to ride Mantis anymore, and Mean Streak is a once or twice a season ride depending on if i want a headache.

Iron Dragon would be great for this. Mild G forces, smooth ride and I find the seats to be comfortable.

What kind of car are they giving away at Valleyfair?

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Iron Dragon's not a signature ride, so I can't imagine them doing that. It would also probably be too easy, making the process extremely long, and would end up being a "how much time can you waste for a car" type of thing. I imagine if they were ever to do a coaster marathon it would be for MF or Magnum.
Iron Dragon is an easy ride but has one of the most uncomfortable seats ever. No padding what-so-ever.

I didn't even think of iron dragon or mine ride. I don't think a contest would ever revolve around them. Probably could sleep on either one (while riding). I think the most comfortable is Raptor, but after a an hour or two i think all the blood in my body would be in my feet.

Jeff, I've never been on MF repeatedly enough to notice the seats being uncomfortable. The MF is one of the rides that gives me that (first time riding) rush everytime. I'll pay more attention to it next weekend.

Well, it all ended this morning. After nine days and over 1,600 rides...they gave the last two contestents a new car!

I hope it's cool that I post a link to a site containing pictures...

Imagine sleeping in that car.

You won't notice from one, or even two rides. It's when you sit in the seat without getting up for an extended period of time. I did one of the Discovery shoots on the ride and was in there for about an hour (most of that changing tapes and reviewing video). It's comfortable for the short duration, but it's really hard plastic. No cushion at all to it.
