I'm not sure the exact year but I have 2 older sisters who loved roller coasters. My dad was a big influence too. He got me all pumped up for when we went to the amusement parks. When I was little- I was too small to ride. My mom doesn't like them so I would stay with her for 2 hours and just sit and watch the rides while my 2 older sisters and dad went on them. I especially remember watching Raptor, Mantu, Mantis, Kumba, and Face-off. Since Bush Gardens, Kings Island and Cedar Point were the main places we went to. My first "real" roller coaster was in 1997 when I rode Big Thunder Mountain for the first time. It was awesome. I still like watching them better than actually riding them. That' could be why I want to Design roller coasters when I get older. (That or something else along the lines of structural engineering).
As for Cedar Point. We used to only go to Kings Island because that is about 30 mins away from my Grandparents but my mom heard of a park that was in northern Ohio. So one year we tried it. I was still too small to ride the rides but we loved it. We came back and year later and have been since! *** Edited 10/22/2007 8:13:41 PM UTC by DrunkinMonkey***
"Water will be involved." MrScott 2006
CP was a once a year deal for me growing up. I was never really into the big stuff - I liked the flats, and Iron Dragon was my favorite coaster (don't laugh).
My husband and I went a few times together after we got married & had a kid, but then real life took over & we didn't make it back for about 8 years.
We had talked about when we would take our son, and I wasn't about to spend an entire day on kiddie rides (even though what I liked wasn't much better). So last year, when he was 11, we took him for the first time. He's nearly as tall as me, so nothing was off limits.
Thank goodness he takes after his dad and was happy to keep trying bigger & better stuff. By the end of last season he had conquered everything. I, on the other hand, took a bit longer. But watching him enjoy them made me want to.
To me, there has been nothing better than watching him experience all of it for the first time. It's renewed my love of CP, and all of the fond memories I have of it from my childhood.
So, I followed up an 8 year absence with 21 trips this season. I can't imagine ever not being a season pass holder again. *** Edited 10/22/2007 9:03:22 PM UTC by Heather75***
I have long loved amusement parks, county fairs, festivals, etc. anything with rides. When I was real young the local county fair had a double ferris wheel and it was the most amazing thing I had ever seen. I knew I had to ride it. Cedar Point became my favorite park because they were the only park that had one.
My first visit to the park was in 1972. The Giant Wheel was new and had gotten a lot of publicity. I remember the morning we went and my mom waking me up and telling where we were going. I was so excited. So many rides.
My love for coasters came along slowly. My first big coaster ride wasn't until age 10 when I rode the defunct Shooting Star at Lakeside Park in Virginia. My parents had friends who lived nearby and they took us there. My first Cedar Point coasters came in 1976 when I rode the Mine Ride and the brand new Corkscrew.
I'll tell my story later, But I just wanted to say this was a very creative topic, and I have really enjoyed reading these.
I'm too sexy for my harness!
I have been going to Cedar Point almost every summer since I was about 5 years old, I'm 31 now. I loved the Rotor and of course, the Pirate Ride was awesome! I loved Kid Arthur's Court and watched my little brother ride the little horn rides, boy that sound annoyed me! Now I have to watch my kids ride them and it takes me all back. I remember when Avalanche Run opened, I was so excited! My family always ended the day with a show at Jungle Larry's and a ride on Paddle Wheel Excursions. When Magnum was built I was so intimidated by it. It took me 3 years to finally get on, and now it takes me atleast 3 rides to want to get off!
I guess my little addiction started after graduating college and getting married. The "real" world was just too real for me and I longed for my carefree days, (like most of us do). Cedar Point brings that back for me. As soon as I see the first hill of Millennium from the highway, I get excited and feel 8 years old again. Like I'm riding the Cork Screw for the first time again and looking over at my Dad who was yelling his head off, telling me I was going to be fine. Come to think of it, I haven't missed a summer in atleast 20 years, I even went with groups while I was pregnant, just for the food and atmosphere. Every year the kids ask as soon as the commercials start popping up on TV, when are going??? I always tell them, as soon as possible!
May can't get here soon enough for me! Ride On!!
It all started when grandma got me on the stupid Mine ride thing at KI. The one where those giant people in the cave watch you. I dont remember the ride but the "big scary people" scared me to death.I was probably 4 so back in 1997. After that we never went back to KI and and CP became my home. I dont remember my first ride at CP but the best ride I have ever had was my first night ride on Maverick this year!
08 cant get here sooner.

Let's Get Weird.
I haven't been on Pointbuzz in such a long time. I missed it!
Anyway, my mom made me get on Top Cat's Taxi Jam at Kings Island when I was almost 3 years old. I cried the whole way and when I got off I said I loved it. :)
So, I grew and rode larger and larger rides. Pretty much my entire life I have loved coasters. I guess I can credit Roller Coaster Tycoon and living close enough to Kings Island that I can see it from my house. In 1998 I came to Cedar Point with my family and loved it. Of course I had been to very often and I had gotten...a little tired of their lineup. Cedar Point was huge and amazing to me, because they had tons of gentle but fun flats and intermediate rides. Plus when I was older they had the best "big kid" rides around.
A couple of months ago I found an old tape with me and my friend at 6 years old debating whether Cedar Point or Kings Island was better and if Magnum was the best coaster in the world. :)
Then in the past two or three years coasters and Cedar Point have blossomed into an all out obsession.
Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~
