I'm going to Cedar Point tomorrow, the 7th, and I was wondering... how has Maverick been running lately? I haven't been able to go up to the park for a few weeks now, and last time I went, it was broken. I know this has probably been discussed to death, but I just wanted to know.

Unbeatable Combination.
I went the week after it was broke and the Sunday it opened at about 9:40 instead of 9:00
The ride went down once in the evening, and then they had another problem and they had to take a train off the track at closing time as well.
It ran though, and the lines weren't bad. I seen a lot of people walking around the queues and using the single rider line from the get go (avoiding probably 20 minutes of waiting).
I don't understand the single rider line thing.
Can't you just go in there even if you're with other people? The only thing would be that you probably won't be with the person you're with, right? I don't know if people do that... it's just a thought ;)

I didn't know that there was a single rider line! Cool! I wish they had one on MF and TTD! :)
I've only been on Mav 2x, I can't seem to bring myself to wait as long as the lines have been for a ride that I can't say I like more than MF or TTD. Though I did like the ride. That is just my humble opinion. I know there seems to be a lot of Mav fans, but I opt for MF during JCC early entry and then TTD after. Maybe the line on Mav will get shorter and then I'll try again more than 2x. :)
Maverick single rider line starts at the very bottom of the stair heading up to the platform. The idea is that the person at crowd control can easily fill the gaps when there are groups of 3, 5, or 7. The less empty seats there are, the faster the line will go.
Many think of it as other parks use single rider lines as a way to get on the ride faster. Maverick's is just used to create two lines at crowd control. One for groups and the other for singles. Your wait should be about the same either way.
A ride op from time to time will walk down into the queue house and ask for single riders. This only done when staffing is sufficient enough, and they have the need for singles at the time.
Is this the best way of using a single rider line? No, but that's how it works.
Maverick has very good uptime. I don't remember the ride ever being done an entire day, unless it was weather related.

^ I actually don't find a problem with the single rider line. I think it would be taken advantage of if they were to put single rider lines by the entrance to the main line. This way, everyone waits about the same length of time.
Thrills Around the Corner!
Other than the 2 hour waits, Maverick ran fine "today" (Saturday the 6th). TTD on the other hand...ehhhh
I am talking about as soon as your off the wooden platform and in to the covered building and are allowed to duck under the rails. I have consistently seen people (groups of 2-3) ducking under the rails, walking all the way around everyone in line, then cutting back in line by the bottom of the stairs, and walking up the stairs.
While a ride operator was watching.....In fact she was even ordered to call out for single riders, and intentionally people from as far back as the wooden platform would be asked by the ride op to come on up.
The single rider line was descending down the stairs so many people were actually using it. I think a good amount of people were really pairs just getting on the Maverick quicker....
My girlfriend and I did the single rider line thing once and got paired up and ended up in 2nd row. We waited 14 minutes to ride the Maverick 2nd row.... *** Edited 10/7/2007 2:54:33 PM UTC by factory81***
If you are a single rider can you just go up to the SR line instead of wait in line? What i am saying is Can you just walk to the line right away?
I bet its a no but Im just checkin.
Let's Get Weird.
Did anyone go to CP this saturday? (10/6)? I just wanted to see if it was crowded and maverick was working OK.
Yeah, you must wait until you reach the bottom of the stairs, unless told otherwise by a ride host.

Seems like Maverick is still having a lot of wheel issues. Almost every other ride I get is over a bad wheel. I happen to ride in the back a lot though so maybe the back ones are more of a problem although I kind of doubt it. I noticed they had some whiter looking wheels on there this time so maybe they are still trying to find a formula that works.
-Matt
Yeah, it seems like one or twice a day while I'm there, they transfer a train off for a bad wheel.
Sometimes, you see a train go by and can just hear the vibrating in the wheels. I've often wondered to myself what causes a ride of that size and speed (in relation to, say, MF) go through wheels so quickly?
-Josh
I think the wheels are quite a bit smaller in diameter than MF, Dragster, or even Magnum, so they must be heating up more. Just a guess though.
I know when I worked Magnum, they got new nylon put on the wheels and they'd let them "cure" for a while in the maintenance building before actually using them. I'm not sure how long the cure time is, but we went through a bunch real quick once and they were worried about running short of cured wheels.
They must have a huge supply of wheels for Maverick. Last night at the end of the night, probably three or four of the trains had audible vibration from bad wheels.
-Matt
That must be what the issue was with my one back row ride - a bad wheel. The vibration in the train was so awful, I couldn't rest my head on the seat back it was vibrating so much.
Maybe the wheel issue was a tiny part of the heartline redesign? Maybe all the changes in direction of the track are having an adverse effect on the wheels?
halltd, I had the same problem on one of my rides on Maverick.
Why does the Maverick go through wheels so fast? Because its just kind of a rad coaster. twirling, looping, 0-70mph, 95 degree angles...
I bet them wheels are like JESUS NO NOT ANOTHER TWIST.
The track design is much more dynamic on Maverick than the other Intamins. MF, TTD, and WT all have very smooth transitions.
