how does the demon drop work??

AFAIK, DD is not a mechanical nightmare, but Hyde's was.

DD has 103 prox switches, compared to TTD's 80 billion and seven. There are a LOT fewer places to screw up on DD.

Something to remember about Hyde...

When The Edge was removed from Great America, apparently the control cables were literally chopped to pieces during the teardown. When the ride arrived at Rocky Point, they patched it back together and got it working again; I have no idea how. When Rocky Point closed and Premier Parks bought the ride, they set it up at Geauga Lake, then called in a third party to install a completely new control system, which never seemed to work right.

So the controls on Mr. Hyde were very different from the ones on Demon Drop. Demon Drop was new when Cedar Point bought it, and they've had complete custody of it ever since, so anything on it that has changed, Cedar Point knows the entire history. On Mr. Hyde's, there was necessarily a certain amount of guesswork involved in making it work!
