probably a stupid sounding question to a lot of you on here, but im not from the area and had never read/heard of the name/word before CF bought the park.

for that matter, does anyone know what the name means or where it comes from? dictionary dot com was no help:

"Did you mean gaga?"

just curious!

It is pronounced Gee ahhh guh and it is Native American meaning "Raccoon"

I pronounced it 'Gouge-uh' once, and my girlfriend at the time laughed at me.

Oh well. I'm not from Ohio. I didn't know how to pronounce it. :)

All the speils say gee-ow-guh, as do I, but the locals say gee-ah-guh, or Six Flags Worlds of Adventure ;-)

Carrots, handbags cheese toilets, russians, planets, hampsters, weddings, poets, Stalin, Kuala Lumpur, pygmies, budgies, Kuala Lumpur!

I always called it "jee-aw-guh" Lake.

My boss called it "gay-oo-guh" lake, and I felt like a dumbass for believing her and using it when I got to the park. :P

I always pronounced it "Guy-Guh" Lake.

G-Awe-Ga is correct.

gee-aw-ga is the right way

When I was there this summer with some friends we met some local girls and the kept calling it Six Flags, so a lot of the locals still call it Six Flags.

This is the perfect thread. I've been wondering for a long time how to pronounce it, thanks for clearing it up.
