I was wondering if Cedar Point sprays anything to get rid of the mosquitoes. And if so, how often they spray. Another reason I wondered was because of all the times I stood in line for Mantis, I've never gotten bit. And seeing as how that lagoon is just one big breading ground for the little skeeters, that's a pretty big feet.
Yeah, but those bugs that make a splater canvas of your car they need to be controlled better.
I doubt those were mosquitos you saw. They were either Muffleheads or Mayflies is my guess. Jeff has plenty of stuff posted through out the site and previous threads about the whole situation.
Check out the feature section for stories on mayflies and midges. There you'll see why they're an important part of the local ecosystem and why they should not be controlled, even if they could.
That said, mosquitoes are not that big of a concern at Cedar Point, as they have few areas to breed (according to my fiancee biologist who wrote those "bug" articles). They breed in stagnant water, and Cedar Point makes it a point to avoid standing water, thus the fountains in the lagoons on the Power Tower midway and around Iron Dragon and Mantis. The parts that don't have fountains are regularly "stirred" by the passing Paddlewheel Excursion boats. Other areas that have water, like the water rides and such, have constantly moving water.
The only place I can think of that would make good places to breed mosquitoes are in puddles on the roofs of buildings, but even then they'd have to be in the shade at all times or they'd get baked by the sun.
I'm not saying that there are no mosquitoes in the park, but their presence isn't that significant.

"And he says 'I'm goin' crazy up there at the lake...'"
They have sprayed in the past, early morning, before the park opens. Like Jeff said, it really isn't a big concern.

Thanks, great explaination!
That may be why they filled in that lagoon by Mantis. Lets not forget, the petting zoo, Mine Ride lagoons, and the hidden Mean Streak lagoon. The Mean Streak lagoon is probably the only place a mosquito can breed. They may have filled this in. It has been along time since I have been back there. Any employees care to share?
