How are the different sections of Hotel Breakers?

Hey,

Well my family is going to book out hotel stay for Cedar Point soon and were wondering if anyone could describe how the different sections are (Bon Air/Original/Tower/East)? Since the original section is older, the rooms are cheaper versus the new sections being more expensive. Are the Bon Air rooms really that bad or are they worth the $140 we are getting for them? We have the "Original" section room for $170. And after that we have the "East/Tower" for $225!

If anyone could help us out, it would be great!

Well, in my honest opinion, the rooms themselves...all of them...are not worth the price - until you consider that they are on Cedar Point property.

The Bon Air section would be a Days Inn type of room compared to Breakers East or the Tower which is more like a Hampton Suites or something along those lines.

Is that $225 the cost of a tower room or a tower suite?

The physical structure of the Bon Air rooms is old but the interiors have been rehabed in the last 5-10 years to include new carpet, new televisions, new bedding, new a/c, etc. There are no elevators in the Bon Air section, if that makes a difference to you.

I would think a non-waterview room in the tower would be right up your alley because you would have a great view of the park and Dragster.

Hey!

The $225 rate is for a normal room in the Main section! The cheapest suite they have is for $290 in the East/Tower. My parents have definetly chosen to not take the $140 rate after reading your description and others, thankfully.

So what is the difference between Main & Bon Air?

Well thanks for your help, I appreciate it!

Mike

My solution to the problem of Hotel Breakers is to stay at Sandcastle Suites instead ;)

Main is older, I forget by how much. Personally, I think Main (the area that includes above the lobby, the Rotunda wings) is a bit louder than Bon Air. There are some suites intermixed in the Main section.

How much is a regular room in East or the Tower? (Room with 2 Queen Beds I think.)

Stupid me, I mean't that a room in the EAST/TOWER is $225!
Well, there is a huge difference between the rooms in Bon Air and in the Tower/East.

The biggest difference is in the years the buildings were built. East was built in '95 and the Tower in '98. Bon Air was built in the '20s if my memory is accurate. Because of this, the Bon Air rooms are quite a bit smaller than the East/Tower rooms. (Believe it or not, people were smaller back then. Probably due to a lack of steroids and Krispy Kreme donuts.)

Again, the Tower and East have elevators and Bon Air does not. I think, but am not sure, that Bon Air rooms have double beds while East/Tower have queen beds. Double check that with reservations.

Other than that, if you are like me and are frugal, go ahead and stay in Bon Air. You get all of the perks for being on Point and it is cheaper that East/Tower rooms. You shouldn't be spending that much time in your room anyway.

One caveat to the above statement. If you are going in May or early June I recommend staying OUT of Bon Air. School groups travel at that time and they are housed in Bon Air making if very loud.

I've stayed in Sandcastle in the past; plenty of room, and cheaper than equivalent space Breakers in exchange for a longer walk. A good choice for those with small children who crash early due to the excitement of the day; the seating area can be separated from the sleeping area by pocket doors. However, Cheif's assessment of Breakers' value is true here too; the rooms are not worth that much anywhere but within walking distance to the resort gate, with the possible exception of the coastline of a small Carribean island.
Brian makes a good point about the separate area for kids. I am surprised the suite at Sandcastle is cheaper than the suite at Breakers. They are, essentially, the same suite. Two queen beds in one room/area and a queen size sofa bed in the outer room.

Of you like a quiet feel, Sandcastle is your place. The views there are the best on the peninsula. If you like a lot of action (arcades, in-hotel restaurants, hopping pools) then Breakers is your place.

Don't forget about the cabins/cottages in Lighthouse Point either.

If my family decides to go for a room in the East/Tower, I'll definetly talk to them about the Sandcastle Suites or Lighthouse Point cabins! I have' heard nothing but good thing about the cabins (seperate from each other, nice size, view).

Does anyone know any sites with good pictures of all the hotels?

Cedar Point has some pics in the Resorts section of thier website. I have never run into other sites with pics. Maybe Jeff should start a Guide To The Resort.
I think Sandcastle is cheaper because it is a longer walk, in a hotel with fewer amenities. With kids aged 2 and 4, being "away from it all" is a plus, else they never manage to wind down. And, in the context of all the other walking you do, the extra walk to Sandcastle is peanuts, even pushing umbrella strollers. However, the last walk back "home" at the end of the day feels long, anyway.
Use the Resort Courtesy busses. That is free (and don't feel obligated to tip).
Yeah, we do that from time to time. And in fact, I don't mind tipping. I'm a big believer in tipping, having worked several service jobs in my nearly-forgotten youth.

Unfortunately, the latency on the resort busses often approaches footspeed, and during busy periods, they can get very full. However, it's really the only way to get from some places to others after- and before-hours. For example, if one wants to have breakfast over by the Marina before the park opens.
