Hotels around CP

Can anyone recommend a hotel or motel somewhere close to the park? The cheaper the better within say 30 - 45 min of the park. Only need it for one night. I live in Michigan so we usually just drive there and back the same day. I am actually looking for a friend. He tried three hotels in Norwalk but two were full and one said it would be $145 a night. Any other recommendations?
There's quite a few hotels on Rt. 250 north & south of Rt 2. Average price around $60-$70. Depends on what day of week you stay.

if you wanna go *really* cheap, the bayshore estates campground right around the corner from the cedar point entrance is not bad. a primitive tent site is like $22 a night. its relatively clean and quiet too.

If you like to camp, I would also stay at Bayshore as well.

Isn't that the campground that has the train go by at 2am?
I have send it before and I'll say it again:

For the best time that you could have, suck it up and stay at a CP Resort. Pick one that you can afford AND DO IT.

You will not be sorry...I promise.

Go to a Point Resort. Or maybe go to Hotel Breakers Express. It's right next to Cedar Point, and is pretty cheap. Plus, you still get in early. I'm actually staying at the Breakers on the peninsula when I go. I think that's the best choice, but if your tight on money, go to the express. Also, there are a lot of hotels right in Sandusky, no need to drive a 1/2 an hour out of your way. You'll be tired from a whole day at the point, and will just want to crash nearby.

Smoking Marijuana isn't a bad thing or even a good one, like everything else, its what you make of it.

If you want a good night sleep DO NOT stay at Bayshore Campground. I had two nights reserved there. The first night that damn train kept me up the entire night. I got maybe 30 minutes worth of sleep that night. The next day we packed up, got our money back instead of staying the second night, and got ourselves a cozy motel room and it was VERY worth the cost. I'm probably never gonna stay at Bayshore again.

Thanks for all the info guys it is apreciated.

The only problem with the Rt. 250 thing is we only go once a year and I'm not familiar with that area so I don't know where to go. Unfortunately we don't have any gear for camping.

He decided on a Days Inn. Their website says it is only 2 miles from the park and $109.99 per room per night. Reserved the rooms online.

One hotel in Norwalk wanted about $145 per room and the closest Super 8 I could find something like $139.99 I think.

He won't be spending much time in the rooms, only to sleep so he didn't want to pay $145 and still have to drive 30 min to get to the park. *** Edited 6/30/2004 4:23:21 AM UTC by Rander23***

If you don't have a non-cancelable reservation, AND can't get the Breakers Express, I'll recommend the Econolodge on Cleveland Road. It's just across the street from the park entrance, and I got it with a AAA rate of $80.10 last Friday night. The operator at their 800 number gave me a rate to match AAA even though I'm no longer a member. Save yourself thirty bucks and stay closer.

$80.10 Is much better. I think he can cancel as long as it 72 hours before. Thanks for the help. *** Edited 6/30/2004 1:56:47 PM UTC by Rander23***
When are you going?

I've stayed at various hotels around the park. This time though (this weekend actually) we are staying at the Travelodge on Milan Rd. I've heard mixed reviews about it on this forum, but it's free! And we honestly won't be in the room that often, just to sleep.

Travelodge has a "if you can find a cheaper rate elsewhere after you book with us, and we can confirm it, you get that night (or one night if you are staying mulitple nights) free"

I booked with Travelodge through their website. Went to www.lodging.com they had the samenight/same room for cheaper. Filled out the form on travelodge's website, got an answer about two hours later through email saying our room was going to be free. :)

Check lodging.com first, see if their rate is lower, for the date you want, then go book with Travelodge on their website, if lodging.com is lower. Fill out the form on Travelodge's website, you should get a night for free. I've checked three different dates just now in July between to two websites and lodging.com is always cheaper. So that means free rooms!

Just stay at a Cedar Point Resort, it IS worth the extra bucks.

I like the Raddison. But we usually stay somewhere in milian... why I don't know.. I guess when your not paying for it you can't complain. I would recomend(sp?) checking out www.hotels.com or somthing. Also if your a AAA member I believe you can get hotel discounts so you might want to check with your local AAA office.
EDIT: I remember a few times when Raddison wasn't booked to the hilt you could get a room for $49.00/night when you booked that morning. I remember we used to do that for the Bonus and Halloweekends. *** Edited 7/1/2004 6:45:19 PM UTC by crashoverride***

I agree with Mr. Scott: spend the extra bucks and stay at a CP resort hotel. I enjoy the day so much better just knowing that a hotel room is waiting just a short distance away. I especially like the Hotel Breakers knowing that we can WALK out of the park and don't have to fight the traffic out of the parking lot. I give my kids gift certificates to the hotels as part of their Christmas gifts.

I book almost all our hotel reservations on line through choicehotels.com It's a chain that includes 5 or 6 different hotels, including Comfort Inn and Econolodge. If you do an "advanced search" by attraction, you can pull up a list of the hotels near CP arranged by distance. Granted, during the peak season, they're more expensive. But I checked today and you can still get a room at Rodeway Inn - 2.5 mi. from the park - starting at $62.99. I like the website because you can also find out what's nearby, like restaurants or other things to do.

They have a frequent guest program, and since we book all our rooms thru them, we earn a few free rooms each summer.

I disagree about staying at the resorts. I'm sure they're great if you would rather hang around the hotel all day, but I find them expensive for just crashing after a day in the park all day. I'm only using a room to sleep a few hours and head to the next park or home. As long as it's clean, I'd rather save money. I suppose it would be a great idea if I was to spend 3 or 4 days there, so I would actually be using the room more, but for a 1 night stay, I think it's too much. They offer package deals, even at Breakers Express, but we found out the hard way that can be a gamble. We did that once, and the day we were to be in the park it rained - really hard - all day. Since the park admission was part of the price, we were screwed. There are plenty of hotels that you can get to from CP within a 15 min. drive.

Drive to the park, and ride all day. Take a trip on the CP&LE and jump off at Boneville. Spend the night in one of those buildings! ;)

I found a HoJo Express that's $37 per night.

Any idea how terribly ugly and gross the motel is, anyone?

I haven't the slightest, but I'm a poor Canadian who just wants to ride coasters, so I'll probably have to tough it out.

Last year I stayed at Quality Inn on Milan..It's only 5 minutes away, coffee pot, fridge, and only 69 a night. It was a pretty decent room.

Let's go straight to the Merry-Go-Round!
