Hotel Perks

Someone told me that staying at an on-site hotel gives you certain perks. Is this true? What are they? I've never stayed on-site at CP before. Are the hotels very expensive?

You can get into the park 1/2 hour before the GP if you stay at a CP owned hotel. I stayed at the Radison last year with 7 other people. We got a "party room" (I don't remember what the room is called) that had 3 double beds in it. The other 2 people slept on the floor. I think it was $30 a person for the night. We also had to get a boat slip to keep our WaveRunners in over the weekend, but that was extra. All in all it was a really good deal. Can't wait to do it again this year.

Resort guests (those staying at Point-owned hotel properties), are able to enter the park one half hour before the general public thus having priority access to Millennium Force, Wicked Twister and (probably) Top Thrill Dragster.

However, although I have enjoyed working and playing at Cedar Point for the last five years and love the park, I can't justify the added cost for the novelty of staying "on point" or at Breaker's Express or the Radisson. My advice is to go during the week or on a Sunday. Hotel rates are lower, and crowds are much lighter in the morning and later in the evening...you save money and have easy access to the popular rides.

They are also adding ERT at night this year. On point, although extremely convenient (espeically if you want to head to the room for a rest), is expensive, but Breakers Express, at the beginning of the causeway, is much more reasonably priced, and not that much more expensive than some of the local hotels.

You can also get discount packages for entrance if you stay at one of CP Resorts. Rates for the hotels can be found here:

Also check the Trip Planning section of CP's website.

There are two reasons why we stay on point. First, our kids nap mid-day. Walking them to their beds is incredibly convenient. In fact, I'd wager to say we wouldn't be going there as a family without a convenient nap option. Second, it's a nice pamper-yourself thing. We only live two hours away, but a 2 or 3 night hotel stay turns what is ordinarily a simple day trip into a "vacation," without having to get on an airplane.

To fly the four of us almost anywhere is $800 minimum, plus the time and hassle, plus the costs once we get there. We seriously considered a late February IOA or Disney trip, but punted due to the low fun/$ ratio. Unfortunately, my 200K NWA frequent flyer miles are *useless* for getting to Florida in late Februrary. :( Instead, we might spend a few nights at Great Bear.

Sometimes local "vacations" are the best. It's nice when you can feel like you're getting away when you're not really away.

Actually at GOCC Edwards said he believed that the night time ERT was going to be available to Joe Cool members only....but it could have changed.

Regardless, although a little bit more money, staying on point is definitely something everyone should try once.

I would be thrilled if night time ERT was for JCC only. Would be worth it to hit the park late after drag racing at norwalk just to get a couple rides on Dragster.

I'd love that. The morning ERT was so much more exclusive when they didn't have the resort people there. I enjoyed being in the park without the GP, and to me, hotel guests are still GP.
