Hotel Breakers sections to stay...

Hey guys,

My wife and I are planning on coming to CP in the middle of August and are trying to plan our reservations. I've been on the forum for a couple years and remember hearing that there's a couple sections in Hotel Breakers that are not good or old.

My question is, what are the areas that are good to stay in and others that we need to stay away from?

Or if you hate hotel breakers, what place is your favorite to stay at?

The Bon Air section is the "historical" section of the hotel. I believe it was retro-fitted with A/C, but its still a 100 year old hotel.

The tower and East rooms were added a few years ago and are much nicer.

I've stayed in Bon Air and Tower, and I do prefer the tower. Plus, you don't have to walk up to Tower rooms. You can, but there is also an elevator.

If not Breakers, I'd suggest LHP. If you've got 5 or 6 going, LHP is much better than Breakers.

I think we may actually be looking at Breakers Express then. The old section of Hotel Breakers is cheap but from what I've heard, we don't want that and the Tower is pretty expensive.

Breakers Express still gets the Joe Cool hour thing right?

You do get early admission into the park, but you have to pay parking. Breakers Express does have a nice pool and for the location a good value.

The tower section of the Breakers gets my vote.

Several years back (when they were building the Breakers Tower) we stayed in the old section of the original Breakers. I got stuck with a hide a bed, and it was marginally more comfortable than the floor. However, it was one of the corner rooms with the circular towers, and I have to say that they were quite spacious. The big curved windows also offered quite a nice view. I would probably stay in one of those again, but ask for a couple extra blankets to pad that sofa bed with :)

I've always stayed at breakers express and loved it; the value, closeness to the park, hour early entry, and even though you pay for parking, I always use my stub to get a few bucks off my Famous Dave's meal! (you can also use it at a few other restaurants, but i forget whichones they were)

My first experience at Breakers Express was for Coastermania, and I have to say, I wasn't impressed at all.

First, we got there and had lukewarm water. We decided not to shower in lukewarm water and were told by the staff to just wait a while in case everyone was coming back from the park and showering at one time. In the morning (4:45 AM, mind you, when no one is showering, I'd imagine), the water was totally cold. We complained and did get a discount on our room, but still. No hot water sucks.

Second, we were staying next to some friends of ours in the hotel. I wanted to call their room, but realized that the 4 digit room number is not the same as the 4 digit phone number. So I had to call the front desk to get their four digit extension. Not a huge deal, but an inconvenience.

Third, written on the phone, it said to get a wake-up call, press *1. I pressed *1, and it didn't work. I tried again, and it didn't work. I gave up and just set my cell phone alarm, which didn't go off because apparently I set it incorrectly. I called the front desk the next day to tell them that their wake-up call service wasn't working, and they told me that I'm supposed to call them to ask for a wake-up call, rather than using the number that the phone told me to use.

Fourth, one of the vending machines ate my dollar. I got my money back and this wasn't that big of a deal.

Lots of little things that were just minor inconveniences, but add them all together and the experience at Breakers Express was just not worth my $96 a night for Coastermania. I think I'll be heading back to the Maples next year. Cheaper rooms, nicer people, and the hot water always has worked for me.

This past weekend I finally stayed at Light House Point. These cottages/cabins beat all the other hotels hands down. I've stayed at both Hotel Breakers, Sand Castle Suites and they both need updated big time. I think they even had an old Zenith TV in the Sand Castle Suites room. If you can get a room in Light House Point, I would highly recommend it!

Me too! We love the tower section. This year we splurged and stayed on the 10th floor (Concierge) and it was worth it. Great views, close walk to the Magnum entrance, and easy access to everything else in or around the Breakers Hotel. Plus, plenty of hot water.

A few days ago we received a dissapointing phone call from the Breakers. Every summer since the late 1980's, we have stayed in the first-floor, large suites that are at the end of the wings off of the Rotunda. Anyway, they called and said that our traditional room will be unavailable to any guests during the dates we will be there (June 29, 30, 31, and July 1). I wonder what happened to the room that would cause them to cancel stays that are over a week away? Maybe they are finally retrofitting them? The furniture has always been real shoddy, but the large amount of space always made up for it.

They've "upgraded" us to some tower suite, but it does make me curious what happened to our favorite room.
