Hotel Breakers may lose landmark status

I disagree about the Coliseum being in-line for demolition. Its big, but I think it is a signature building for them. The raw space inside could be better used though. I've said before, they should sink some serious money into the facility, and restore the ballroom and exterior. They could greatly enhance their ability to host conferences with that building, and or simply create something that is more usefull. Heck, my own personal pipe-dream would be for them to use the second floor as the station for a new coaster.

The new additions to the Breakers are not pretty, but they are functional, I suppose. It made me sad the first time I saw the Breakers with it's new towers, it was sad to see historical structures being torn down. I almost wisht they would tear the whole thing down rather than chip away, wing by wing, at that Grand Old Hotel.

I agree with Nathan, I don't think the Coliseum would be torn down, it is a signature building. They could make better use of it though, renovating the ballroom for use by conventions, or as a restaurant, or food court, or for administrative purposes.

Too much of a good thing...is wonderful.

I say the Coliseum may get razed because Kinzel did say in a GTTP interview about a "project that will change the look of the park". Plus they did have plans to renovate the Main Miday this winter, which I think is preperation to incorporate the Oceana Midway with the Main Miday.
This is what I back-up my theory on.
A few weeks ago, I was at Battery Park in Sandusky looking across the bay at the new Lighthouse Point construction. I neglected to bring binoculars, but through my zoom lens I saw what appeared to be the Lighthouse building, but without the light cupola. Did the lighthouse lose this a long time ago? did CP remove it for restoration purposes? Were my eyes playing tricks?
Vince the old coast guard station by cedar point isnt owned the the coast guard anymore. It was sold by the feds at auction and cedar point was the low bidder hence it is cedar point property now.
The additions to Breakers are atrocious, but you have to admit that they're economical. It would be interesting to see what would happen to the hotel's prices if they attempted to renovate the older portions rather than simply updating and building new sections.

I don't think the Colisseum will be razed either, but it would be nice to see it made better use of. As for new projects "changing the look of the park," that could be almost anything. Didn't Millenium Force and Power Tower change the face of the park? The skyline, at least, and I'll admit that PT was a burr in my shoe for awhile as a non-coaster part of the skyline. As Cedar Point moves away from old history, they're making new history!

If the title is revoked, is it possible that CP will demolish the rest of the hotel and build a new lobby and rotunda that is modern so it doesn't look so awkward?

He didn't say any such thing in that interview either.

So far, evryone who dislikes the new additions for thier looks is right on.

From an architecture standpoint, the additions pretty much ignore the original hotel which is a BIG mistake. I don't know what they were thinking when they combined turn of the century Victorian with what looks like a Howard Johnson or a Dormitory! Sure, form follows function, but at least whoever designed the place could have put some effort into it.

Do not go into architecture, it has nothing to do with coasters.

So did they lose it or not?

I agree the rotunda is the important part. Haven't stayed in the Bon Air section for years and years, love the new tower, just wish they'd get wi fi all over the danged hotel. It would be nice to be able to access the net and email if it's raining out! And also, they should really give a free breakfast with the rooms like most hotels do now.

Was this "bump" felt at the park?

I'm too sexy for my harness!

Could someone google map which building the cedars is please?

Ceders is right next to famous Daves.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Yeah, I believe they did loose the landmark status, but did you have to ressurect a nine year old thread to ask that?

Dutchman, the person asking that question asked in 2001. Lynda bumped the thread an was simply commenting that the hotel should have wi-fi throughout the hotel and guests should get free breakfast.

Actually Jason, Lynda resurrected it, and then Shawn hijacked it.
