Hotel Breakers - Old vs New

Missa, if you're having a nicer dinner, I'd really recommend the Bay Harbor in the CP Marina on the night you get in. It's a wonderful restaurant, and it would be a great way to start off your CP vacation.

Unless you start first thing in the morning.

Try the peppered steak. Good God was that amazing. Could've been the wine... nah, it was just that good of a steak.

Ooooh. If they still have it the blackened prime rib is great too!
You guys are making me hungry - I don't wanna wait a month and a half! Too bad I don't live closer (5 hour drive).

I do have some pics of the Lighthouse cabins. (I can send them to Jeff, but I need an address). They are nice, but are way too small for the price they are asking. I would rather spend an extra couple of bucks and stay in the new section of Breakers. Nothing beats one of the corner suites overlooking Lake Erie. And honestly, staying on the park property is the best way to go. I love the water rides on a hot day, but the water does have a distinct oder to it. If you stay at one of the hotels, a quick shower in your room and you are refreshed for the rest of the night.

My family really likes Lighthouse Point. The rooms aren't big, but my wife finds it more comfortable than a hotel room when she is hanging out there. She likes to sit on the deck and watch the freighters go by while the rest of us are in the park. They are very nicely decorated.

It is nice to have the grill and kitchenette and there is a full size table for eating meals.

The biggest drawback is the bed situation. There is a double and a set of bunk beds in the bedroom and a couch that folds into a double bed that isn't very comfortable.

So Jeff, what is your personal opinion of them after seeing them first hand? My sis-in-law loved them and has made reservations for three separate trips. But, her taste and mine isn't exactly the same. Do you think they are worth the money? Or do you prefer Breakers?

I'd say that if its two people (you and wife or whatever) go with Breakers, but if you've got 4, 6 or 8 people go with LHP. That's probably what I'd do, but who am I to talk? I am more in the class of Sleep Inn or EconoLodge class. :)

I'll have to get back to you, as photos aren't good enough to form an opinion. Ask Spartan!

Steering back toward the topic:

For us, it's Bon Aire just for tradition's sake. There's nothing better than getting up in the morning and seeing Maggie out the window. Millie is just there off to the left. One of my favorite views.

And while the price difference is nice, it's not my main concern. Case in point -- we're leaving for Disney World tomorrow and staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge for the second time. Kinda pricey, but we loved it last year so we're doing what we like.

We stayed at the Coronado Springs last year for our honeymoon, but had dinner one night at AK Lodge. Definately on my list for staying at some time in the future - cool place! Have fun at the Mouse.

I think the Bon Aire section days are numbered. It is the logical conclusion that sooner or later that section will have to come down and a Breakers West will come a knockin'.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see changes from the lobby to the front door in the original part of the hotel. I think the lobby and rotunda will stay but I wouldn't be surprised if the offices along the hall won the front and the rooms above aren't replaced in the not-so-distant future with a small tower, maybe 5 stories or so, and some new offices and meeting rooms.
