Hotel age question

Hey I'm new here (actually I've been a lurker for a long time now hehe) and I have a question about hotels around Cedar Point.

You see, me and my best friend are planning a trip to Cedar Point as a "graduation present" to ourselves. (also Six Flags too but I'm definately more excited about CP... We're just going to Six Flags because it's "there" ;) ). The only problem is, we're 18... Can we get someone over 21 (parents) to call and reserve a room or do we HAVE to have an adult there?

We're coming all the way from North Carolina so I just want to make sure about everything hehe

The policy at the park was that if someone in the room isn't 21 then the park will have to get i.d. and call the parents to confirm that they gave permission for the kids to be staying there.

I don't know the policies of the hotels off-point.

Thanks for the reply! That helps alot... we'll probably end up staying at Breakers Express... or if some the hotels off CP have the same policy, we'll most likely stay somewhere cheaper.
If I remember correctly, the "must be 21 to register" rule applies to all hotels within the city of Sandusky. Whether or not any non-CP hotels have a policy like what Chief described is something you will have to call individual hotels about.

You have to be 21 to drink in all the bars in Sandusky, too. Look how uniformly that's enforced!

I Met Brittney! Shes SOOOOOO Cool!

When we were 19, we were able to stay at GreenTree Inn. It's right at the entrance to CP. All we did was use one of our parents credit cards. But, that's been 7 years, policies could have changed. Also, the hotel isn't as good a place to stay as it used to be.
Thats ok Jeff, that's what I have my CP buds for.

Last year, my girlfriend and I ended up staying in Huron, OH. They had a 21 rule, but they bent it for us since we were driving the 8 hours to stay at their hotel. I doubt you would get that bending from a place closer to the park, but the hotel was great. ;-)
...and Huron is a nice little town. I would recommend Thunderbird Hills to any of you golfers out there.
That seems odd that "Sandusky" would have a 21+ rule. In fact, I dont believe that is true at all. If it were, it would seem to me that the hotels would be up front in making mention of that at the time of reservation. From the websites, while the "Choice" brand of hotels (Comfort Inn, Quality Inn, EconoLodge) *do* have a 21+ requirement, there is nothing like that found on the Days Inn or Best Western web pages. My *gut* tells me that as long as you have a credit card in your own name you shouldn't have much of a problem bedding down *somewhere*. Just call around. I'd wager it wont be too hard.
Er, the Breakers will be 97 this year; Sandcastle will be 13, Breakers East will be 8, Breakers Tower will be 5, Breakers Express will be 4, and Lighthouse Point, which really isn't a hotel, will be 2. I'm not sure about the Radisson... :)

Actually it makes alot of sense for Sandusky to have the 21+ rule. Most cites do. I know Chicago does as my cousin just had problems when he went to Chicago getting a room because he was under 21.

I don't believe that Perkins has the 21+ and I don't know about Huron although I've had several under 21 friends stay in Huron without a problem.

It's all about liablity and in the event somethign alcohol related happens the hotel is not responsible. If they are allowing under 21 year olds to stay and they KNOW they are under 21 and somethign alcohol related happens. Technicaly, the hotel could be charged with contributing if a lawyer REALLY wanted to push the issue.

Thanks for the replies guys! We'll definately be calling around soon. :)

We're going to be driving from North Carolina (my friend is scared to DEATH of flying so that's out of the question haha) so I just want to be sure about everything.

You can also get a camp site right next to CP. Its called Bayshore (I believe). There is no 21 rule, that I'm aware of. Its fairly close to the main drive less than 5 minutes. And super cheap. Heres the website, for you. I have stayed there with my friends the last two years and have had lots of fun!_____Jesus-Freak____

No, Chicago has no such "rule". I lived there for most of my life and have even stayed in hotels there. It *may* be true that the individual hotel operators decided to self-impose a 21 limit, and your explanation is certainly reasonable. But it is not something that the City of Chicago has put in place.
After further investigation.. I foudn it's just the hotel he stayed at.. The Drake.. go figure a 5-star would have that rule. I wouldn't want under-agers in my hotel with it costs that much.
