I personally wouldn't mind a bit if this was show was removed from the park, or at least moved to a different location. I think that the control booth and screen are eyesores that look shoehorned into the midway leading up to the train station. The show is mediocre, at best.
How about moving it to a revamped area near the old aquatic stadium, WT, and DT? And, while they're at it, maybe builld a new theater there on the grounds of the old aquatic stadium to house the Snoopy ice skating show. Then, convert the Imax theater back to one that actually shows Imax films rather than having it look like a second rate ice rink.
Adds family enterainment all around. What do you all think?
There really isn't the space on the Oceans midway for either the control booth and screen, or the crowds that gather to watch it.
The ID midway is REALLY the only spot. I do like the idea of putting in an ice rink where Oceana now stands and converting the theater back to IMAX.

Hot summer nights are really killer when you don't have air conditioning. I'm actually looking forward to fall.
As for Hot Summer LIGHTS, its current location is working just fine.

Ooops - you caught me. Make that Lights not Nights!
Maybe I would like the aesthetics better if they found a way to remove that screen during the day.
The screen should be retractable so you can't see ANYTHING during the day. As far as the show goes, it's horrible. The location would be fine if the show was actually good. I can't even believe it places on the AT poll. When you compare it to shows like Illuminations or even just Wishes, the show at CP is an embarrassment.
there is absolutely no reason to shut down good rides for this show. I would much rather take 2 or 3 CPLE train rides than take in the $%^&&@! that this show makes rides in the area stop for. A famous former Detroiter says GRIOT when it's time to Get Rid Of Things.
^^Agree with you totally. The Disney shows make this look like a very amateur production. It is subpar to the CP live shows as well. If they want to do a "closing act", why not spring for a decent fireworks show?
I liked the show when it had the lasers. If they just brought back the lasers or even just performed the old show I'd be ok with that. The current show is a bad screensaver.

The only daily night shows I stop riding for are the Disney productions. In my opinion, they should completely sweep that award, Ive seen all the WDW versions and Spectro, Wishes, Illuminations and Fantasmic! are amazing. Also, acording to all who have seen both, Disneyland's Remember Dreams Come True and Fantasmic! completely blow away their Orlando counterparts.
Although Im not too upset about the Train being closed, because my summer night schedule goes as follows: night (or twilight if not possible) ride on MF, then my Magnum Marathon.
Lighting is easy to supply too so I don't know why they would discontinue using lasers. 123dj.com for instance sells lighting equipment for live shows, and as you can see...it's only a few thousand dollars for a pretty powerful light show. Many of these lasers are weather proof also.
Since I have only ever seen 2 Peanuts characters wandering the park. I would have to say if the Peanuts characters came out at night time it would be cool.
The screen...yes it could be easily retractable, once again concerts usually have better visual equipment :).
You know out of all the things you can usually tell how a theme park spends its money possibly by the quality of the speakers they purchase. Now I know the one by Gemini is horrible sounding, but if you listen to the ones Maverick, they are very detailed. I heard no distortion even at the high volume levels they play at, and then given the weather conditions. It would be my guess that each one of them speakers in Maverick area cost $300-500 (per little one sticking out of the ground).
So for them to be weak with other items just makes you think its a gross misallocation of funds. *** Edited 9/8/2007 3:44:28 PM UTC by factory81***

Agreed. Of all the times I've been there (about 15 in the last four years) I've seen only one character standing near the front gate. I understand why they're not out there in the heat of the day in the middle of summer, but I'd like to see more of them. I know we can't compare CP to Disney, but Disney characters wander throughout the park, even though I'm an adult, there's still something fun about running into them on the midway.
I have a friend who worked at Disney and they require the people who are Mickey and Minnie to be small in size. My friend said for the 8 months she worked at Magic Kingdom, Mickie and Minnie were asian people always.
I would think by now those characters carry a battery pack with a fan built in aiming towards the head.
But it would be a blast to see the Peanuts characters each night gather around to watch the fireworks then all the kids could gather with them as well.
^Yeah, most characters and mascots like that have ice packs and fans in there, but it would still be hot during the day. I was sweating and smelly on two trips this year, it got close to 90 both times and I was wearing shorts and a tank top, but it cools down at least 10-15 degrees (usually) by dusk.
I wouldnt mind seeing Hot Summer Lights gone either. I thought it was a horrible idea in 95 when they first brought it in, and still do.
I say, get rid of it completely and move Giant Wheel back to its former home. I enjoyed the view on Giant Wheel much more in its old location. I also agree to move the ice rink and bring back IMAX. I used to go to it every year. :(
R.I.P. MrScott... You're greatly missed!!

Interesting; I thought "Mickey" had to be about 6 feet.
(There goes my shot. :))
Thats the MAIN difference between Kings Island and CP. Kings Island you actually see the Nick Characters at the front gate NO MATTER what time of the day...no matter what there is at least 2-3 of them at the front gate...Cedar Point..you rarely see the Peanuts characters at all in the park unless you go see the ice show or the camp snoopy shows....not cool.

there must be a better use for that big screen. It's a shame, what was called "Hot Summer Nights" in 2007.

Giant Wheel was located where the final curve is on Millennium Force. So, if you want it back there, you have to give up MF. I don't know many people that would give that up. :)
