Honeymoon stop at CP, hotel/resort suggestions nee

Well, I proposed to the love of my life last week and it seem that I am now getting married in either June, July, or August of this year 2003.

Luckly, I have found someone who loves Roller Coasters and CP as much as I do and we have already agreed to spend our wedding night and first couple of days of our honeymoon at the point (her idea).

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any insite or suggestions as to which resort may be the best for a newlywed couple. Price is not an option, I am looking for relaxation, privacy, but still an upscale experiance. We would prefer to stay onpoint and one of the resorts there, but if anyone knows of any other options, I am willing to here those out too.

Thanks,
James K - Soon to be no longer single

I think if you are staying at the point, SandCastle suites would be the best, i think. I have seen all the rooms at the Breakers...so i dont know if they offer better rooms.

Anyway, Best wishes to you guys.

Thanks, Big D. Sandcastle is what I was thinking would be recommended first.

Now, does anybody know about the cabins? How do those accomodations work out for people?

Someone who actually has the same ideas I do! When I got married,we went to Vegas for a week,on our wedding night we stayed at the Radisson in one of their king size jacuzzi suites before flying out that following Monday morning,we went to the Point on opening day (this was in 1999). We got married the first weekend in May though and CP's hotels weren't open that weekend so that is why I went to the Radisson.

They had better service and food than the Sand Castle had. The Sand Castles jacuzzi suites are a little nicer though since they are on the lake.

If I had it to do again,I would pick one of the suites in the Breakers Tower,I heard they are nicer than the Sand Castle's.

Well congrats on getting married....you must go to Red Gables for dinner...they have limited hours and you'll need a reservation but it is so awesome..the have excelllant food you'll probably spend around 50 bucks for 2 depending on drinks but the atmosphere is phenominal and ambience..wow..i think you'll love the service and the restaurant..its on route 6 about 10 minutes from the point..between chausee (sp?) and the causeway...south side of the road..i am sorry i dont know there phone number by heart though......congrats again..hope to see the couple at the point next year!
So, this makes me wonder. How long will it be until she has a SN here?

Back on topic, does the park know that you are staying for your honeymoon (well, part of it) there? Perhaps you might get some special services or something of the like. Let I remind you that I have absolutely no clue on what type of special services or if there are any, but it's just a thought.

There is a concierge at the resorts but I don't know if they give anything "free" for honeymooners. You might be able to contact the resort and have something waiting for you when you check in.

The Suites at Breakers are nice but I would recommend a Grand Vista Suite at Sandcastle. That hotel is quieter and those rooms have the best view on property. You can see the bay, channel and lake through a variety of windows.

There is a jacuzzi in the room and terrycloth robes (which you can buy, if you like). Take her to Bay Harbor for dinner one night while you are there. I believe the room also has a VCR so take a couple of your favorite movies in case of bad weather.

The room is going to cost you but for your honeymoon, it is worth it. You only live once.

On a honeymoon and you suggest to take some movies for the room?
Well, I didn't give any suggestions for certain movie titles.
Don, they need SOME "downtime" ;)

Screw Cedar Point... you can go there any time. Kauai... that's where it's at.

Actually jeff,

There is now talk of flying to Hawaii after visiting CP. Though I am willing to shell out some extra cash for my honeymoon, Hawaii may be a bit beyong my reach right now.

You'd be surprised. AAA with Classic Vacations hooked us up for eight nights, room on the beach, rental car, air for two, for about $3,200. That might sound like a lot, but you have to understand the room we had was unmatched by anything we've ever stayed in.

Funny thing James. You started a similar thread almost a year ago... and this time you are serious.

I own you!

$3,200 is not that bad actually. I might look into that.

Sheraton Kauai resort on Poipu Beach... take a peek. Kauai is the most tropical of the islands, with the most natural eye candy (except no volcano). It's where the outdoor stuff was filmed for Jurassic Park. It's also not overly developed like most everything on Oahu and some of the ridiculous places on the Big Island.

Kauai has the amazing NaPali coast, Waimea Canyon ("Grand Canyon of the Pacific"), amazing sailing cruises, helicopter flights, vinyards, waterfalls... lots of stuff we didn't have time to do during our week there.

Our local AAA booked our trip through Classic Vacations. Again, it was a top-notch package.

If we're making general honeymoon recommendations now...

We went to what is now Beaches Grande Sport near Ocho Rios, Jamaica. (At the time, it was a Radisson resort named Ciboney.) It has all the plusses and minuses of a Jamaican all-inclusive resort, which I won't bore you with here.

The thing that makes this place wonderful is the room category known as the "honeymoon villa suite". There are three living areas. At one end is the bedroom with an amazing roman tub/shower, and tons of room. At the other end is a parlor with a sitting room/kitchen facilities. Each morning, someone will come to cook you breakfast to order, with the best coffee I've ever had. I sometimes buy Blue Mountain coffee in the states, but it never lives up to what we had there. In the middle is a private plunge pool and hot tub, walled off from prying eyes.

The other plus for us, relative to Hawaii, is that the flight time is considerably shorter.

This was not cheap, but it was fabulous, and the most memorable trip either of us has taken (including many to Europe). I'd hesitate to comment on anything other than the rooms, as the ownership has changed since we last visited, but you can find recent reviews all over the web.

My parents went to Cedar Point on their honeymoon. During WWII they couldn't afford to go anywhere else so they went to Cleveland (from near Pittsburgh). They have a photo of my mom in front of a ship which I finally identified in the C.P. history by Francis as the Roosevelt, which made trips from Cleveland to the Point.
Thanks for the information everyone.

It now looks like we may be considering Hawaii as well as CP.

Here is the very very tenative plan as it sits. (provided this does not conflict with a previous commintment the first week of July). Cedar Point for a couple days after the wedding. We would then fly to LA for a couple days, visiting Knotts, SFMM, and maybe California Adventure or Disney. We would then continue on to Hawaii for a week or so. Then back to Good ole Detroit.

Like I said, very tenative. But back to the point. Any more suggestions on hotel/suite/cabin accomodations at CP?
