Historical Question

I was just looking over the history section of this site and came across something that had me wondering:

1995

• Cedar Point announces plans for Banshee (September 8)
• Cedar Point confirms their new stand-up roller coaster will not be called Banshee, due to the connotation of the word 'banshee' (September 13)
• Cedar Point announces their new stand-up roller coaster will be renamed Mantis (November 17)

I was wondering if there is a thread or if anyone could give me any answers to what connotation of the work banshee means????

I also was wondering if there were any sites that had old maps to look at? Like what did the Park look like in say 1997?

Thanks again for any help!!

Why do I have a hard time grasping the fact of people thinking of the 90s as historical? Maybe the 1890s when the Switchback Railway opened.

I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.

It's all a matter of perspective, Frank Sinatra.

I did enjoy looking at those days too!! Its really Amazing to think about how much fun the guests had during those days as well....I am sure that back then they would have never dreamed that Cedar Point still would be popular!! I am pretty much an history buff!! I love to think about how the First Riders of the Blue Streak felt!!! Every time we go to Cedar Point we always take a little relaxing stroll through the Town Hall Museum! Its always a nice break and great way to relax!!!

Now...considering I saw first hand what CP looked like as far back as 1966...I'm feeling pretty "historical" myself!

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

Wow....1997 Historical? Seeing how my Husband and I had our Honeymoon there in Cedar Point in the summer of 1990....I wonder what that makes us??????

Your like me,we did our honeymoon at the point in 88 and now we are thought of as geezers, lol. The good thing about it though I am still a kid at heart.

Oh- I remember my first time to Cedar Point...Maybe in 1995 or earlier. It was with my family, but of course, i was only about 4 or something. I dont really know, I skipped any math in there. I was a coaster person from the start! Gemini Jr.! Best ride ever invented in my opinion! :D

Raquel + Cedar Point = one HELL of a time! :D

And also- don't be afraid of the drop. Enjoy that thrill and rush of being alive baby!

I started going in 1998, but I have a map from that year and even from there, the park has really sprung up! I recently realized that all of those Jr. Gemini area rides wern't so new anymore. Frog Hopper and Woodstock Express are 8 years old!

My dad's a real ld timer if you guys are, he started going around 1965. He talks about how Cedar Creek Mine Ride was the big thing =] *** Edited 3/31/2006 2:21:13 AM UTC by CP Tay Tay***

Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~

Yay for the Ceader Creek Mine Ride! I remember I took a friend with me one time, and we got to ride it a few times in a row becuase no one was coming at all, and we did the Y.M.C.A. on it. It was awesome! Those ride operators are the only ones that ever let me do that! lol

I have a lot of i remember moments...

The class I teach at OSU was discussing music when I walked in.

I mentioned my favorite band is R.E.M.

90% never heard of them.

the 10% that did asked me if they actually were still around.

I wept on the inside.

Alas....I have become historical

I remember CP before Frontier Town, guess I'm ancient! Bring on the Social Security checks! LOL

It sure was, and I remember when guests got off the train in Frontier Town and ran to Shoot The Rapids at full speed, similar to today's Running of the Bulls to MF.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Wow...All you guys talking about our generation being historical brought me back to what Matt(my Brother-34) And my Parents were talking about over dinner last night.....Jen and Sam were showing their Grandparents(our Parents) Cedar Points website...And my Mom and Dad were both laughing about how when they were younger they went with their Friends to ride this Brand New Ride called the Geminii!! God if we are Historical I sincerly wonder what they are called?????? LOL!!!

If It wasn't for fun, Life would be all work. Now who wants that????
