high ticket prices??
Because plain and simple....people will pay! Specialy with the new coaster, they'll get lots of people and lots of cash flow from the ticket prices. We'll get used to the price after couple years and it will go up again, but we'll have a new coaster to offset that. Paying CPs prices to ride the coasters and experance all that they have is quite cheap, compaired to paying a bunch more money to wait in line to see and get an autograph from a hairy rat and his womencoughcoughdisney

For the entertainment you get at CP for $38, I wouldn't complain when you consider that my home park, SFoT, charges $36 for a one-day ticket. I bought a season pass for $40. Much better. CP has 14 coasters, nearly half of them being world class. Many, MANY flat rides and other stuff, great food, friendly staff, and an amazing charm that just can't be compared. On the other hand, SFoT has 10 coasters, only 2 of which I would compare to anything at CP (Shockwave and Texas Giant), flat rides are nearly non-existant, food is just allright, and the staff seems to forget their smiles at home, but it does have the distinction of being the first Six Flags park and the one to spark the theme park era.
Compared to SFoT's price and the prices you would pay at any other park in this country, I'd have to say that CP will give you a helluva bargain for your entertainment dollar! I wouldn't complain one bit! :)

Actually, according to the article that I read about ticket prices (the one that was posted about on this site), Cedar Point's new ticket price is about average. Average price for an above average park isn't bad if you ask me.
Besides, you can spend as much or more on sporting events and Broadway shows (The Broadway show prices are worth it, but I can't understand the sporting prices when you can get a better, and more comfortable view from your own living room.)

The average ticket price for a major amusement park in the USA is $38.00 this year, so I would have to say CP's price is about right. Like Jeff I only get season passes, but it is a christmas present. And like 1badgmc, I went to KY and got a six flags season pass for $40.00 good at any six flags in the US. To bad we couldnt get cheap passes like that for Cp at another Cedar Fair park, or can we? Anyone know how much Knotts season passes are, or any other park that cheap season passes can be bought at? I travel alot so it might be worth the stop. Thanks for any feed back!

I paid $69 for my Dorney passes at the end of last season. You can still order them through today for $82, then the price goes up to (I think) $89.
The only drawback to getting your passes at one of these parks is that you have to first activate it at that park before you can use it at CP. Since I'm only 90 miles from Dorney, it's no problem for me, but if you're in Ohio, it's probably not worth the trip.

CP charges a fair price overall. For most people that are only going to once a year, its not a steep price. And really, for those of us that go many more times than that, the real bargin is the Season Pass. Indeed, with the number of trips I make in a year, its a dirt cheap bargin.
If you look at how the money will roll in having MF there, its impressive. They issued bonds for the contruction, basically deffering the actual cost of building for many years. Yet they gain tax incentives by doing so, and then can also deduct the depreceation over the long term. So they can blunt the tax blow in the short run, enhance their ability to avoid taxes in the long run, yet enhance their bottom line. What I have not stopped to figure out is how CP deals with a downturn in the economy....and there will be one. I'd be interested to learn how they would deal with such a time. They haven't really dealt with hard times since the 80s.

I was talking to screechnowl on the phone earlier, and he brought up the point that CP ticket prices are realy not all that bad, look at how much baseball tickets are, around the same price, dependes what stadium and team, but you get alot more excitment out of the $38 bucks for CP than the aprox $35-40 for a baseball ticket and you get more time out of it, about 12 hours of fun at CP, 3-4 hours at a baseball game.

I worked at CP for 5 summers (90-94). I was there for Disaster transport,Mean Streak, Snake river falls,and Raptor. Every year they raise the ticket prices because they know people will continue to come! I was at Disney World in Feb and ticket prices for one park is $48 and thats only for one park! CP isn't as nice as Disney but CP does have better rides and does offer more free entertainment than Disney.

Another point worth considering is how many people are actually going to pay the full gate price to get in? Even if I wasn't a season pass holder, I could still buy discount tickets or use the $9.00 discount coupon in the CP GetAway Guide. While some people will end up paying full gate price, I think that the majority of the people that come to CP will not.
I'll leave the "CP isn't as nice as Disney..." comment alone, because we know my feelings on that issue.

If you just rode 13 coasters not including JR Gemini, that would come to roughly only ***3*** bucks per coaster. You can't even get into the cheap movies for that, and I rate Magnum better than any cheap movie any day.
