Height, Speed, Putt-Putt size area!?

I am a first timer at this board but have been reading from it for a pretty long time. I have been wondering about what everyone thinks and has heard about the new coaster at cedar point. The thing that baffles my mind is how the heck they will be able to put something 400 feet in an area that small. We have all seen the noticeable land clearing either through pictures, or first hand experience. But i pose this question. When the season is over and the park is closed until may 2003. Dont you think they will clear more land for the new ride? If a ride of such proportion will be going into the park next season, i forsee more land clearing well after the season is done and work to be sped up to a steady pace. Let me know what you guys think.
A tophat doesn't take up alot of room...
True a top hat does not take up a lot of room but i highly doubt cedar point will put a top hat and thats it. A full circuit coaster will have to take up more room unless they have some type of wicked space saving design.
People have to walk on something next year...

The way things are going makes me wonder how much the area will change for 2003. The markings on the midway between Magnum and power tower especially. If they tear up that, they need to route around it somehow, or redesign the midway's layout completely. Just as long as it works.

Area that small? Dude, I think you need to visit the park and look for yourself. That area is anything but small.

If you think that area is small you should see the area at Knotts...I'm saying their is more than enough room to put in a 400 foot launched full circuit coaster with a tophat....
Yes, very true that a tophat takes up very little room... also look at how much empty land is on the islands that MF travels over.. plenty of room for traking there, weaving in and out of MF... plus, this should be a rather long, narrow circuit along the lagoons and islands if it does not go over to the MF areas. the Magnum/Corcscrew midway will be diverted quite a bit regardless... so to sum it up... there is plenty of room for a 400+ footer!

thats the "current" construction area we have.. it's well over 8 acres of space... no one says a coaster has to be sprawled out like MF to be good... i'd just be expecting a LOT of turns and such

[edit]you can see the real putt-putt area up to the right of the tower's location

It's more of a long par 4 sized area I would say. Incidentally the founders of the modern cedar point wanted to originally turn part of the peninsula into a golf course (since were on the subject of putt-putt and such).

Great areal photo there, Maverick... definitely a lot of space for a decent circuit... so no need to worry there, Smash453...
I also wonder if we'll be able to walk under the structure as well. Look how great Corkscrew looks on the midway. I, for one, have always liked being able to walk "through" corkscrew.

We'll probably be able to walk under the structure....since this coaster will be so close to the midway...unless they get it redone. It would be cool if the launch would be over a midway.

Several months ago, some woman in line for the Wicked Twister tried to tell me that they were going to build a coaster that circled the entire park (a 4-minute-plus ride). Was that a silly idear or what? Probably, but isn't it likely that this new thing will take up a lot more room than the area from the old DodgemII, past the old Chaos and Troika sites and down along the Iron Dragon?¯
some easy modifications can be made to the midway to allow for such a large coaster with the land that has already been cleared,

Refering to mavericks photo

They could rip up all the pathway and some trees from the corrkscrew entrance to the magnum entrance. they could then do a straighter shot with the pathway so that it would almost align with the footers, that would give them a huge amount of room on the other side of the path that is only being used by the john deere display.

tophat?????

Thats a tophat, well technically a reverse tophat.

The size of the area is actually rather large. When I was there in June and August, the area seemed really large, and now it's even bigger. I can see a ride will easily fit their.

EDIT: Whoops, I now see his point, all taken care of.

I think those pictures were ment to show coasters that fit in a really small area, not a reverse tophat.

Magnum est magnum.

it's approx 400 yards long... mosy golf courses are very capable of fitting a full sized coaster on each hole... its not hard to do
