heart conditions :(

okay its still rare in someone as young as me; even though it is a common dysfunction. I didn't ask for a correction on my wording; no offense.

It really isn't rare in someone as young as you, though. That was my point. I guess it all depends on your definition of rare. When you suggested you had a cardiac arrhythmia, which is more common than most people would guess, my first guess would have been atrial fibrillation. I'd say on a crowded day at CP, there are probably 100 people with atrial fibrillation riding those rides and don't have a clue they have it. It's up to you about what you do, but I would honestly consider it pretty benign.

IvyRose, I'm sorry to hear about your ailment. I sure hope they let you get back to riding all the coasters very soon. Barring that, I hope those docs can help ensure you have a long and healthy life.

Hang in there! It'll seem better in a few weeks. It almost always does. :)

My author website: mgrantroberts.com.

I had been having palpitations, shortness of breath, and burning in my legs/arms for YEARS and my primary care doc kept telling me it was anxiety. I told him it CLEARY was not anxiety, as it wakes me up in the middle of the night and will happen at work for no apparent reason. Anyhow, I ended up in the hospital with it and I was diagnosed with IST-inappropriate sinus tachycardia. Luckily, it is benign... more just a Pia to put up with the symptoms. My mom has had neck and back problems for years, and she still rides. It doesnt put her life at risk, but definately causes some pain for the next week or so LOL She loves them too much to stop!

Ivy, I'm not a cardiac nurse although I'm familar with A-fib of course & know it can be controlled with proper meds. It must be very disappointing for you not to be able to ride, but even controlled arythmias could be dangerous on rides that cause an influx of adrenaline. I hope everything turns out alright for you.

I still enjoy the park even though I cannot ride many of the rides, many that are top thrill attractions. Anything that twists or spins which leaves out alot-Maxair, Skyhawk, Maverick etc. Hopefully ypu will get cleared for "takeoff", but if not, I hope you still enjoy the park. :)

okay. I saw the cardiologyst, and asked him about riding rides. He said to take it easy, and it probibly wouldnt be a good idea to do some of the hard-core coasters. I'm bummed but I understand. He said that if I do go on a few intense rides that it could trigger the a-fib attack. I am still taking toprol, and just now put on flecainide. I was seen by two different cardiologysts, and both of them say my best treatment will actually be catheter ablation (sp?). Kind of scary, but this is the best option for me.

I know it's impossible to diagnose over the Internet and your doctors have the advantage of seeing you and knowing your full history, but radiofrequency ablation is typically a last resort move if your drugs and chemical cardioversion don't work. From your posts, it seems like you haven't tried cardioversion and haven't been on drugs for very long. RFA is a pretty involved procedure and is effective only 3/4 of the time. I'd be pretty surprised if this is truly your best option...maybe get a third opinion.

well this weekend went great for me, I only had one episode, and that was while I was in line for Dragster. I didn't really plan on going on Dragster anyway, but a dumb part of me wanted to. I started having palpitations and faintness so I just passed right through out the exit. I rode Mean Streak, Maverick, Millenium, Demon Drop, Mantis, etc. I stayed off Dragster, Raptor, and Power Tower the whole time. Maybe it wasn't the smartest thing to go on so many, but I did and I was fine. I passed my stress test with flying colors. It was a fun trip though!
