Need to pass a kidney stone? Ride a coaster....No, really, check this out.....
I'm too sexy for my harness!
So if I read the article correctly, the testing was done with simulations or model kidneys? I am not an expert in the field and the article did not give much in the way of actual details of the testing process... But having HAD a kidney stone a few years ago, I can tell you from a pain standpoint that a roller coaster is the LAST place I would go to try to pass it - even if it was 100% certain to succeed.
Did the pain levels of a moving stone factor into this study at all? The back pain caused by my stone often forced me into a modified fetal position/orientation which would literally be impossible in coaster restraints. I can't imagine the pain caused by a moving kidney stone from a coaster ride WHILE STILL REMAINING ON THE RIDE!
Then there is the nausea that accompanies the stone... Yep! Getting on a roller coaster with crippling back pain and severe nausea. Not the combination I am looking for!
If I ever get another kidney stone, I will stick to drinking plenty of water and peeing into a strainer, thank you!
Proud to have fathered a second generation coaster enthusiast destined to keep me young at heart and riding coasters with a willing partner into my golden years!
See...and this is why I don't trust anything that comes from a Michigan student/graduate.
All jokes aside, I've never had a kidney stone. But I hear they're extremely painful. According to this article, it doesn't just work on any coaster. But still, I'm not gonna book a trip to Orlando real quick to pass a stone when I have cranberry juice/pills and water in the comfort of my own home
As far as the title of this thread goes, cp offers me no health benefits when I enjoy the season meal deal.

If you think about it, there are really several health benefits for visiting Cedar Point. Relaxatipn, stress relief and time with family and friends just to name a few. Then throw in its not uncommon to put 25,000 to 30,000 steps in a day walking around the park. Eat somewhat smart and it does offer benefits.

It's too bad Mean Streak is no more. That thing would have rid you of any kidney stones......even if you didn't have any.

As much as I despise tsun, this one came from Sparty.
There's so much wrong with the actual study I found on another link that goes more in depth with this.
Cool, a fake kidney filled with the patients actual urine in a backpack between the riders.
In very few ways is this similar to any endocrine system. Hell, the lack of a stable blood pressure to extrude through the kidneys alone leads to issues as in the fake kidney there's just liquid in tubes sloshing around. Where's the dehydration
The last part here...this isn't passing the stone. This just moves the already formed stone from the kidney, down a ureter, to the bladder. This is where your pain is mainly. The ureter may give some sharp back pain, but 90% of a patients pain is actually holding on for dear life waiting for a stream to finally come out.
Now, I could make the argument that stones within the kidneys could be broken into smaller fragments by the ride, as stones are still "forming" here, and haven't traveled down the path. That may have some logic to it. There's several things actually, especially from a medicine standpoint that do break up these stones, so that's a logical argument.
However, again from a medical standpoint. I'm not going to say, hey go ride the **** out of Mean Streak..no I'm going to prescribe potassium citrate if they have calcium stones or whatever..Makes zero sense lol
