Has Cedar Point ever closed due to inclement weather?

This is the first time for me noticing that there were days where a Six Flags park or a Cedar Fair park like Valleyfair will go on Facebook and say, "Due to the inclement weather..this park will be closed today (or tomorrow)." Right now with the weather we are having, Kennywood's Holiday Spectacular (or whatever it's called) has not opened and Six Flags over Texas announced they will not open today or tomorrow (wanna know what weather is going on there).

This makes me concerned with Cedar Point because it's a big park with people who plan on staying the night at one of the resorts only to find out that the amount of days they stay, the days planned are the same ones that Cedar Point would have to close.

Now I'm not sure if this was ever discussed, but has Cedar Point ever closed sown their park due to bad weather (I'm not talking closing early, I'm talking closed all day). I'm sure when that tornado touched down in the seventies it did, but that's a different story. And if it has, approximately when did they do such?

Not that I know of. But I think I remember reading not too long ago that they closed during the 2003 blackout and I think the article also stated that's the only time they ever closed early in the entire parks history. I'll see if I can find that article.

Hmm...I can't find it. Maybe it was in a book. All I can find is news stories about Cedar Point offering discounts to those who attended the park that day.

Ah yes I remember that (gosh it's been ten years ago). Wasn't there people stuck on the Magnum that day?

I think the bad weather Cedar Point is likely to experience is different from what is happening right now in Texas and Pennsylvania. If we ever have a massive winter storm during Halloweekends then I guess we'll find out. Being snowed in on point would probably not be such a great experience. It would be a good photo opportunity, though.

I was there for the blackout as well, 12 years old actually. First trip ever too Cedar Point oddly enough. Luckily the next day was dead in terms of the crowd and not nearly as hot.

Still haven't stopped going twice a year since then. Cheers too Cedar Point on this late night drunk post! And Pointbuzz!

I don't even think they closed during the year they had the waterspouts on Lake Erie. I think all that happened in that case was a shelter-in-place order but that was at least a decade ago if I remember right, so my memory's a bit foggy.

I can't remember them closing outside of the blackout. As some one stated though a blizzard during Halloweekends could do the trick.

Isn't all of Cedar Point currently closed for several months due to inclement weather?

...and enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point, The Am-aaaa-zement park!

I've been following the construction cams, and CP has missed alot of the snow I've gotten. There's none on the ground there now and there's at least 2 inches on the ground now over by the Akron Canton Airport, where I live.

CP wasn't closed for this, but it is interesting none the less.

This is off-topic, but do you go to school down in that area as well? I'm going to Stark State College myself and thought I'd ask.

I'm not in school now, but I did attend classes there 3 years ago. Stark State is only about 5 miles from me. I live in Uniontown.

I had a similar experience back in the 90's. I've got a picture of myself standing in the midway with water up to at least my ankles.

On June 1st, 1997 the park closed early due to a full day of rain that flooded and closed 1st Street making the park inaccessible.

Also on October 5th 2001 the park closed about 3 hours early due to inclement weather. It was a Friday night HalloWeekend filled with icy cold and sleet.

Then how did people get out of the park if the road was flooded? If they took Cedar Point Rd. instead of the causeway, they could've just detoured traffic to that road instead of closing the park entirely.

^ I've seen Cedar Point Rd. partially flooded. If they couldn't use the causeway they may have wanted everyone out in case Cedar Point Rd. became impassable, too.
