hands up?

If this has been done before don't yell at me i'm just bored. Do you think it'll even be possible to put your hands up on this thing without them flying back. It is possilbe the speed will just be to great that it might even be painful. Any opinions on this. Sorry but it's better than height geussing, cause really what does it matter. Whether it's 410 or 415 it's still going to feel really friggin high when your up there.

You better believe mine will be up!

I hear people say that Hypersonics Launch is too forcfull to put your arms up. I find that if you put your arms straight out instead of straight up, its like there was never a strong force to begin with. On the other hand, the first time i ever rode it, i had my arms straight up, my shoulders were pretty sore after. This also the second operating day in 2001 before the warnings, so i didnt even know.

I'll probably have them in front of me for the launch but after that I'm sure my hands will be up!
I feel the launch will be so long that it's not going to matter if you keep your arms up or not. I've been on Superman the Escape at MM, and the blast is very fast but much like 16, it's going to be long. So don't worry.

The hosts will tell you to keep your hands inside the car at all times (as you should) but after that..... you decide.

Exactly what Ryan said. This is what I do on WT, and it feels cool.

Yeah, On WT I hold my legs out and arms it gives you a sense of flying. And if you move your legs and arms really fast, It feels like your running at an incredible rate of speed :)
I would be worried if you put your hands straight up. If the acceleration is fast, (like under 5 secs) then it probably will hurt and the ride crew should tell you to place your hands across your lap.

If the acceleration is like Superman: The Escape, (S:TE) then they may be more lenient (lenient means less strict) towards where your hands are. But I think it's best to place them not straight out, or straight up, but rather in between the area. Forming a 30 degree angle. This formation allows for your hands to accept some acceleration, but not enough to catch you off guard.

Oh yeah, if there's bugs on your shirt, you had a good ride.

Thank you Jeff for your work to make and run this site!

All I have to say:

Wave them hands in the aiiir, and wave em like ya ju....WAAAAAAAHH! :)

The acceleration of #16 will be much more comparable to Hypersonic that Superman: TE. I haven't been on Hypersonic, but I would guess that it wouldn't be the best idea to put your arms straight up before the launch. Same thing with your head - keep it back, against the headrest.

I think CP's policy for #16 will be simular to the policy at Knotts for Xcelerator. Everyone's arms must be down, and your head against the headrest before they will launch the train.

Only a matter of time before "hand restraints" are invented.

Hypersonic XLC was awesome! Nice "Dumb and Dumber" quote, I loved it.

Launch Coasters Rule!

"Hey, let's pick 'em up! Mock Si! Ing Si! Bird Si! Si! Si!" Great movie. I'm sure CP will make you have your hands down and head back, but after the launch...(if you can move:)) there's nothing they can do about it.

they are probably gonig to have restraints on ever part of your body. so you wont be able to put your hands up!
You forgot about the one quote that they will have playing in the station too. "Sattle Up Partner" ;)
I rode Xcelerator numerous times this past summer. The light "tree" allowed riders to know when the launch was about to happen. I was cautious the first several times -- raising my hands earlier and earlier each time I rode. (I always had my head all the way back against the rest.) It was actually quite easy to keep my hands up through the launch -- I did keep my hands a bit forward of my shoulders to prevent excess force on my shoulders. My 8 year old was able to do the same thing. While #16 may accelerate somewhat faster -- and to a higher top speed -- than Xcelerator, I would imagine that keeping hands up should be quite possible
I imagine my hands will be white knuckled holding on for the first ride. We'll see after that.

The largest problem of raising hands at 100+ mph is what is called a "Wake Vortex." The Wake Vortices generated by roller coaster trains have been a subject of interest for several years. The turbulence experienced by a following train in the wake of a preceding train is directly linked to the velocity field induced by the wake vortices. The potential danger of the wake turbulence is currently one of the most limiting factors for capacity issues in amusement park rides. As frequency increases and corridors draw closer, the wake turbulence becomes more and more important during ride times. In some cases passengers have lost hands or whole arms as the result of a wake vortex. I personally am aquainted with a person who encountered a wake vortex so powerful that it actually started pulling at his leg. As the coaster increased in speed the wake vortex kept pulling and pulling his leg, just like I'm pulling your leg now.:)
Funny stuff, but I think you've been reading too many FAA reports sigma! ;)
