Blue Gemini Always Wins.
June 30, 1977, to be exact. From the timeline:
A tornado strikes the northwest tip of the Cedar Point peninsula. It moved across Frontiertown and Camper Village and then out over Lake Erie. Five rides were damaged including Shoot-the-Rapids, CP&LE Railroad, and the Cedar Creek Mine Ride. The storm hit at 7:45pm and, although the park was open, all rides were shut down. At Camper Village, 15 cars were damaged or destroyed and, in Frontiertown, several dozen trees were uprooted. Also in Frontiertown several buildings were damaged including the Jitney Arcade and the Emporium. A portion of trees that were scheduled to be removed for the construction of Gemini were also uprooted. The park opened the next day with 50 of the 55 rides operated and Frontier Town closed. A total of 15 people were injured.

Walt,
You are the CP gurue.
What coaster was recently taken off the "Classic Coaster" list and why?
Blue Gemini Always Wins.
Blue Streak, because it got a new restraint system, I believe.
2005/2006: Cedar Point - Millennium Force
2007/2008/2009: Walt Disney World - Magic Kingdom - Tomorrowland Speedway
2008: Hard Rock Park - Maximum RPM! Opening Supervisor
2008/2009: Universal Orlando - Men in Black: Alien Attack Team Leader, Guest Services Coordinator
You are correct TTD.
This one is a tough one. Can anyone name the movie filmed here in Cleveland, that referenced CP in it? Couple of hints: Scott Glenn was in this Movie, it came out in 1994. It was filmed mainly in downtown close to the steel mills and the reference was when Scott Glenns son wanted to fly to see his father and lied to his mother stating he was going to Cedar Point with his friend.
Anyone???

Speaking of movies and CP...
Tommy Boy (Chris Farley, David Spade and a number of others.) was filmed in Sandusky. They said in the movie that if the plant cloed down a lot of people would be out of work and the city would suffer. What about the Point? That provides a lot of jobs and helps out the economy there quite much.
Either way its still a REALLY funny movie and should be viewed. Many times.
"Ive got the need, the need for speed!"
A few externals were shot in Sanduky and that's it.. The majority of the movie was shot in Ontario Canada.

VertiGo Rides - 82
R.I.P. Fright Zone, and Cyrus along with it.
They also said that the most exciting thing to do in Sandusky, Ohio was cow tipping.

I remember I was watching "Last Comic Standing" a few years ago (or something like that) and one lady was from Sandusky. And the host guy was like, the Rollercoaster Capital of the World, and I was like, OMG OMG we gotta tape this. Not really but it was funny to hear.
Oh, well, to pertain to the Trivial Theme, can anyone name that lady from Sandusky who was on "Last Comic Standing?" Sorry, I don't remember her name, but if anyone does, double kudos!

I always love it when the tornado topic comes up because it makes me feel like an important part of CP history. I was 4 years old and at Cedar Point on the day of that tornado. My family was camping at Camper Village for the weekend and on the way back to our camp site that night, we found out about the tornado. My father and the father of the other family that we went with were allowed to go to our campers to get some things and we were put up in Hotel Breakers for the night. My parent's trailer was not touched but our friend's camper (right next to us) was tipped over upside down. Or at least that is how I remember it (although since I was only four at the time some of the specifics might be different) I also seem to remember that the Witches Wheel was there for its first year that season and I had the theory that it caused the tornado (since it moves like a big fan)
...and enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point, The Am-aaaa-zement park!
