Grand Opening Rides

Hey all, I've been curious about what you thought about Demon Drop, Iron Dragon, Corkscrew, Gemini, and/or Magnum the year they opened. I was born when Iron Dragon was so I dont know. Thanks a lot!:)

I remember when Magnum opened. The enterance to the line was actually on the other side of those restrooms that are near the current enterance. That was the first year I ever went to the park, I was only 4 years old (I just barely made the 48 in height requirement). Most people in line were terrified of it (We've all seen those people in MF's line). I rode hands up the whole way. When I got off, I asked my mom if they had anything bigger than that.

I remember being in line for Power Tower when they had the grand opening, I think I have a peice of ribbon from the ribbon cutting.

I feel old, I remember when the Gemini first opened, and I was too small to get on!!

And I feel even older because I remember when they opened Cedar Creek Mine Ride. But it's funny thinking back on the large lines for Corkscrew, and Gemini's queues were filled for both front and back. I've got a brochure from 1977 with the intro to Gemini on my webpage:

I remember opening year of corkscrew, I waited in line for over an hour to ride the first coaster with 3!!!!!!! inversions. ooooooooooooooooooooo

Believe it or not, Iron Dragon's line was enormous the first season. I remember waiting over an hour plenty of times. All the rides you mentioned (Power Tower Blaster) opened with much anticipation because there was something special about all of them when they opened. Demon Drop seemed so big when it opened. I also remember looking at Gemini then the way I do now with MF. And Magnum, I about passed out the first time I saw it.
