Goodbye to Roller Coasters.

After many years of riding and enjoying coasters,my body has informed that those days are over. After riding a smooth coaster The Millennium Force,my right shoulder blade hurt like hell for two whole weeks.Enough is enough. At 74 I am now relegated to shows and baby rides.I will miss it.I will not stop going to CP......

^Wow. coolkid you are always the gentleman...

Allan, Sorry to hear.. I like to think that if I'm still riding coasters past 70 yrs old, it will have been a very good life.

I hope I am able to as well.

I tend to stay away from the really ruff wooden coasters. I will ride them once for the credit, and move on. I know some people that can ride(and love) the real ruff coasters over and over again. I know those people are going to have issues when they get older.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you hurt your shoulder on millennium force? There is no harness on the ride.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Hope I'm still able to ride in my 60's and 70's as well. By then all the kids will be grown up and I won't have to use parent swap any more. It's always fun to see the older generations getting off the rides and jogging back to the end of the line to ride again.

Gosh, Allan, that really stinks. I feel badly for you that this is happening. It's something I've always dreaded, and an event I know will come someday, should I live long enough.

I've always pictured myself trying to find some consolation by taking up painting and trying to bring an easel and canvas into the park (although a sketch pad and pencils might be more practical). Either that, or start building a model amusement park in the basement.

Not to be offensive (i.e. I'M JOKING) but the Circle of Life is complete--you started out riding Jr Gemini and you have returned to riding Jr Gemini. :)

Congrats to making it this far! I hope my body allows me to do the same.

Jr. Gemini is a heckuva lot rougher than MF...

Are you sure the shoulder blade injury was caused by Millenium Force? Were you holding your hands up? Maybe there's a different way you can ride it without problems?

Still, I guess you have to think of yourself as lucky for having so many great years with roller coasters and being able to experience Millenium Force.

Also, don't forget there are other parks out there. Maybe a thrilling roller coaster like Diamondback at King's Island would still be rideable...

Good for you Allan, that you will still go and enjoy the park. My mom is 90 years old and loves going to the park to take in the atmosphere, see a show, eat and ride the Sky Ride. It's just a happy place to be no matter what your age or what you like to do in the park.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Sorry to hear that Allan. At least you can still ride some coasters. If it ever gets to the point where you cannot ride them at all, you can still go fast over the train tracks and get a bit of air time. ;)

"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"

My dad is 77. He still rides. He keeps it to one big coaster per trip. Usually MF.
