Good Midway Market Experience

So yesterday I went to Midway Market for the first time this year, not quite sure what to expect after some of the negative comments on this site, but I had a nice experience.

I was pleasantly surprised that the price was only $11.85 per adult, not the outrageous prices some had mentioned. The restaurant was crowded, with a steady flow of new people, so it was obvious that many in the park found the price point appealing.

Walking over to the buffet, the selection of food was as I remember it, with the exception that they now have cheeseburgers even for dinner, in the past they had carved meats. All the food I tried has hot and fresh, probably having something do with the fact that the restaurant was busy and the buffet had to be constantly replenished. The food was fine, not gourmet by any stretch of the imagination, but good basic food that was well seasoned so it wan not bland. The chili was especially tasty, with a nice little kick to it. The deserts were very nice, with a nice selection of baked goods plus warm cherry cobbler and ice cream sundaes.

I will certainly go back, I found it to be an excellent value. For $11.85 you can pig out on burgers, pizza, meatloaf, fried chicken, fajitas, salads, soup, side dishes, deserts and soft drinks. With the high prices elsewhere in the park, this is one place where I felt I got my money's worth.

That price seems lower than I remember. I don't think I would have too much issue paying that for a buffet. That's about what you would pay at a standalone place like Ryan's or Golden Corral.

Definitely a great deal. That was the dinner price? You cant beat that. I have always had good experiences there.

I wonder if they lowered the price recently, since I know it was mentioned several times here that the price this year was $17? Now how about those Subway prices...yeah right, that's asking too much.

When I was there a month ago, the price was over $16 for dinner.

They must have changed it, or the $11 is the lunch price.

I also remember it being somewhere around $17 just this past weekend. (7/25)

$11.85 is the dinner price, as I went to Midway Market at around 6:45pm.

Wow, they actually made a good, rational pricing decision with food...I'm stunned. Maybe we need to keep on hitting the Subway issue now. Hey Jugga, how would you feel about redirecting your hate for Midway Market towards the Subways on Point? ;)

EDIT: I wonder if they have gone to one price point for the day, or if lunch is cheaper now? Also, Pete, was there any indication that the $11 price point was temporary or a short time discount?

That's a bit more in line with what I'd expect for buffet food, especially with desserts. Go a buck less and I'd go without a second thought.

I hope that the busy factor makes someone realize that there's a price/conversion curve at play that they've been steadily trashing for years.

It looked permanent to me, as the sign did not say it was a special price. It may be one price point for the day, as the main difference between lunch and dinner used to be the carved meat at dinner replacing the burgers. Good decision if that is the case as I thought the burgers were good enough that I did not miss the carved meat.

In talking with a wait-staff member at MM, she told me that the restaurant is keeping the lunch price and lunch menu in the evenings Monday through Thursday, reverting to the original price Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It was pretty obvious that the park guests were taking advantage of the lower price--BOTH sides of the restaurant had diners seated instead of the usual left-side and there was a line of people going out the door. I was there last night and a week ago--same thing! I wrote to CP about it and suggested there could be a market for a lower-price buffet.

Hopefully this will prove a point...people will actually eat on point if prices aren't ridiculous. I don't mind paying a few extra dollars for convenience.

Yes, $11.85 is a good deal for a buffet.

Now if they could do something about the $13 footlongs........

Hmmm....a sub costs $13, but an all you can eat buffet is $11. Tuff choice.

I was at CP yesterday, 7/31, and the buffet price for Dinner was $16.75. So it must have been a special price for a day.

If you read just a few posts above yours, you would see that the $11 price point is from Mon.-Thurs. The higher price kicks in for the weekends starting on Friday.

And yes Crazy Horse, I would hope this makes them reconsider the (lack of) value with prices for certain foods that you can find elsewhere for $5 (and there goes that stupid song again...darn it).

Since we nearly always visit during the week, perhaps we'll have to check this out.

So $11.85 included your drink as well?

Not only is that a good value in park, that is a decent price anywhere. I'd pay around $10 at a chinese buffet.

Yes, drinks are included with free refills.

Sounds like Pete had a better experience compared to what I had last Hallowweekends. How about the all you can eat bbq deal that have been doing, has anyone tried that and is it good?
