Golden Ticket Awards: How Cedar Point can improve

Ah the annual Golden Ticket Awards discussion. Here were my favorite highlights from this year.

Kings Island lost the Best Kids Area award after more than a decade. But conveniently, they won a new "renaissance award" for bringing back the antique car ride. (This is probably the award Cedar Point will win next year for Paddlewheel.)

Steel Curtain at Kennywood won Best New Ride despite opening on July 13th. Meanwhile, Copperhead Strike and Yukon Striker didn't win despite being open since April and May respectively. Fortunately, Yukon Striker won Innovation of the Year for its loose article system, and Carowinds still has Best Steel Coaster for Fury 325.

Everyone gets an award!

(Note: I have no issue with Steel Curtain being considered "better" than other new rides, just with the timing of the supposed "voting".)

^ I remember thinking the same thing when Lightning Rod at Dollywood won the Best New Ride after a horrific opening year of downtime.

Steel Curtain was a clear 3rd for me of the new for 2019 coasters I rode. Copperhead was my clear #1 and Yukon #2. Didn't get out to Maxx Force. Copperhead in the front row is outstanding. Steel Curtain looks great and the dive loop into the stall is super fun but the rest was meh IMO. Yukon is very powerful until the late course brake run.

CP Coaster Top 10: 1. Steel Vengeance (40 rides to date) 2. Top Thrill Dragster (191 launches to date, 4 rollbacks) 3. Magnum XL 200 4. Millennium Force 5. Maverick 6. Raptor 7. GateKeeper 8. Valravn 9. Rougarou 10. Gemini

How can they improve? By cutting a bigger check to Amusement Today.

My Golden Ticket Award ballot was due on July 23.

Steel Curtain and Kentucky Flyer are the only new rides I got to ride this year...and I ride Steel Curtain on July 20.

Did KennyCon host a majority of Golden Ticket voters this year?

It may be a great big circle jerk, but the Golden Ticket awards do serve a purpose, as noted above. There’s no such thing as bad (or weird, or purchased) publicity.

Unless you're using it as criteria for "how Cedar Point can improve." That's one step up from improving based on the input of a random user on PointBuzz. 😉

With no actual boards. That's a point deduction.
