Gold Pass upgradable

XS NightClub's avatar

I just spoke to season pass center, the Gold Pass is upgradable to a platinum by just paying the difference.

It says on the website that if you get a new season pass, you can use it for the remainder of this year. I'm wondering if that includes the addon's like the fast lane plus, food, etc. Did you discuss that at all? I tried to call 5 times and it hangs up after one ring when I press 9 to transfer to a person.

Why wouldn't it be? The standard pass has always been upgradable. I don't see why gold would be any different.

I figured it would be, but thought best to check with the park.... instead of asking on a forum and getting 12 different answers from people that don’t know for sure.

Food plans, etc are for 2020 - they answered a lot of questions on their FB post.

What?!?!
You went to an official source for park information to get accurate information instead of speculation?
You could’ve always just assumed and then complained on pointbuzz about needing to be made whole...

Just got the Gold pass. Down from a platinum which I've had for a few seasons. Wondering if I'll need a new gold card since its a renewal. Guess i'll find out next week when I go and ask. Great value with the Gold pass, plus the fastlane! Whew what a steal good work CP.

I would imagine you'd need a new, gold pass, considering they visually check your card to permit access to morning ERT.

Brandon

I would think they would want you to have the gold pass for ERT purposes. But what if you still have your platinum pass? You could use it for the visual check. Or will they change to something that requires scans of the cards?

My guess is that the Platinum Pass will be changing visually as well for next season, but it does raise a question. If I paid for the Platinum Pass for this season (which I did), and then I "downgraded" to the Gold Pass (which I will, we just haven't gotten around to it)...do I still get my extra 30 minutes of early-entry for this season since I did pay for that?

Oh no, I have this sinking feeling we are going to need a “Using Old Platinum Pass Morality Thread” soon.

I just had to toss it out there to watch the fish bite. :)

How about renewing your family platinum passes and add ons through Canada’s Wonderland and taking advantage of the currency conversion rates? I figure I can save $300 at the expense of loosing the bonus bring a friend and FL passes, which I might not be able to use anyway.

These may be silly questions, but...

1) If one purchases through the Canada's Wonderland website, does it convert the $$ automatically? The price on the website for a Platinum renewal is 191.00, just like at Cedar Point's website.

2) If I purchase it there, don't I need to get it processed there? (If so, can you drive me to Canada?)

3) At the current conversion rate, 191 in Canadian monies = about 150 American monies. So we would be saving about 50 bucks a pass.

Asking for a friend....

I just bought the 2020 gold pass as a renewal, it says on the top of the voucher not to throw out the current pass as it is now active. I kind of want the gold pass ( more for collecting than anything), so I'll post up in 10 days for our August visit. Downgrading from Platinum to Gold.

From my understanding the charge is in CAD so your bank does the conversion for you and pays them in CAD. My bank doesn’t have a fee but some might.

I have never upgraded/downgraded from regular/gold to platinum as have always had platinum but I have renewed switching between CP and KI and never had to “process” like you do with SIX, Just keep the old pass until we loose it and then get it replaced at either park. In fact one year I think 3 passes were through KI and 1 through CP for some reason I can’t recall.

Justin over at Cpfoodblog just made a post yesterday about the new gold option and says he purchases through Canada’s Wonderland to save $400 on his family purchase. A few years ago there was some talk over on KICentral of some members doing it but at the time the conversion rate was much tighter so it was only like $15 per pass savings so I never pursued it.

But it would really suck if for some reason CF made my drive to Canada for some silly reason especially because I don’t have a passport. I just wish I had more confirmations it all works out fine.

When you think about it, the piece of plastic isn’t really important anymore as we can just load passes on our phones if we want to and never use the actual card. It’s all about the account number/QR code.

I should probably do as XS suggests just call the park and ask if there are any issues/pitfalls, it’s not like anyone is trying to commit fraud. I figure it is a global economy and more power to you if you are willing to shop around and cross boarders. People buy meds from Canada.

Speaking of using the CP App.. has anyone been able to link their Gold Pass to the app? I just purchased and received four Gold Passes on two separate transactions two days ago, and when I attempt to link them on my iPhone X, it tells me that something went wrong and to try again later. The actual cards have been working at the gate. Anyone have any success, or did they possibly not update the app to support the new gold passes yet?

Were you a passholder (platinum, etc.) of a different type before you purchased them?

Promoter of fog.

The last time I had a season pass was 2017. I didn’t have any type of season pass in 2018 or 2019 (until buying the gold pass).

I would assume it will be rectified soon. The Gold Pass is only 48 hours old.

Try again later. :)
