In a memo sent to the Register, Cedar Point announced that Carrie Boldman is retiring and stepping down from her role as the first female general manager of the park.
Hopefully someone competent that can improve ride operations. It also wouldn’t hurt to stress the importance of cleanliness throughout the park also. This should be monitored by the GM to ensure the managers are enforcing the cleaning policies for the supervisors and crew members in each department. It would be great to have someone native to Sandusky or in the area like Carrie. Her approach just wasn’t getting the job done.
Ride Ops this season were definitely sub-par until early June but after that point they were equal to other parks that are open year round such as Knotts. Since CP has to hire and train a significant number of new employees every season I think they ended up doing very good as far as ops efficiency this season. What are the issues you have with park cleanliness? Most of the cleanliness issues I observed this season were the result of guests being pigs rather than anything sub-standard by the park. However, I was only at the park about 45 times this season so I missed a lot.
Say what you want but Carrie did a wonderful job, especially with the cards she was dealt in 2021 coming out of the pandemic. She may not be out on the midway charming guests like Jason McClure, but she has done a damn good job keeping things going given the corporate cutbacks.
I will say I wish there was some more live entertainment during the dog days of summer but the park is usually packed with the ride every ride at every minute crowd during that time. I for one, loved Boardwalk Nights and the live entertainment they had throughout the end of summer and Halloweekends. At the start of the season I was not at all a fan of Carrie but throughout the course of the season I became a fan. Overall I think it was a great year at CP and that is saying a lot since their main "draw / attraction" was closed for the entire season...
I’ll be interested to see if there is someone notable within legacy Six Flags that jumps into this role.
Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!
I could see someone like Jeffrey Siebert from Six Flags Fiesta Texas, who seems generally well-regarded as a GM, being considered.
"Thank the Phoenicians!"
Jeffrey Siebert would be a "this is too good to be true" pick and I'd be over the moon for him to be the GM.
If they stay in house (in park) Colleen Murphy brings a lot of experience including several working with Bill Spehn at Geauga Lake and then a few as GM of Wildwater Kingdom after the rides closed. Say what you want about the way everything Geauga Lake was treated by Cedar Fair corporate. But Colleen (along with Bill) fought for the success of that park until the end.
