Hey everyone, I'm going to Cedar Point on a school trip over Memorial Day weekend. I'm really stoked, cause I'm a serious coaster fan and Cedar Point is like Heaven to me. Anyways I wear glasses, and I was reading where one of the suggestions is to wear a strap securing your glasses. Is this necessary? I've worn my glasses without a strap on countless coasters and they've never fallen off. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
"Glasses must be secured with an athletic strap on maXair, Power Tower, Skyhawk, Top Thrill Dragster, and Wicked Twister."
"Must" meaning it is required by park policies.
It use to be Millennium Force too, but according to the site, not anymore.

The Point ones are hot (as in cool). They let you get on everything with them, even stuff like Power Tower (which, surprisingly, didn't seem to want to pull them off as much as you'd think).
And they're (obviously) reusable, I've got mine from last year sitting next to my sunglasses waiting to go!
2008 - Games (Area 3/Scales)
2009 - Games Supervisor
2010 - Season pass holder.
It depends whether you get the plastic kind or the fabric kind.

I would actually buy an eyeglass holder somewhere before you leave for CP. My glasses were too thin to be held by the CP glasses strap, although my old glasses worked fine with the CP strap). Straps vary and you might want to shop around and find one that will be comfortable for all day wear (if you plan on hitting rides all day long). I have two different straps and I prefer one over the other. I wear my glasses on all the rides with the strap just to be safe instead of sorry.

I used to use a neck cord with my glasses all the time.
Then one day I was riding a Rock-O-Plane, and the cord went over my head, caught on the brake handle, and literally yanked my glasses right off of my head, bending the temples in the process.
Since then, I've avoided using a cord unless the park won't let me ride without one. It's safer to just have them adjusted correctly.
(I had a similar cord incident on the Impulse coaster at Geauga Lake, although the glasses didn't come off; I just had to spend the ride with the cord whipping me in the nose...)

Not this again!!!!! I think this comes up every year too, I wear precription glasses... this rule is nessary, but I think the concept is stupid when you place them in your pocket and then you get yelled at because its not a closed pocket???? Okay, thats just retarded!! One - people carry cell phones on there sides should also have to rent a locker or buy a strap or if they dont have a closed pocket. Two - what about loose coins in your UN-closed pocket. The Glasses rule is in place for a reasonbut cmon' this this just ridulios the rule is you must have a closed pocket or a strap.

Oh, those stupid elastic things? Those are worse, as they put reverse tension on the frame, which can make the temples pull loose, making it easier to drop the frames. All this while being damned uncomfortable.
The fact remains that the best way to avoid losing your glasses on a ride is to make sure that they are adjusted correctly.

Even though I dislike the rule, I can see why it has to be done. I've only almost lost my glasses on one ride in my entire life, and it was King Cobra @ PKI. The glasses started falling off while I was bumping on the OTSRs and finally fell off and I luckily caught them and just held them the rest of the time.
Heh, on one of our trips last year, we were just getting ready to leave Breakers for some ERT rides on MF, when I realized I left my strap at home. We were in a hurry, and since I was wearing my sandals, I just unlaced my shoes and tied a shoestring to my glasses for a strap. Nobody seemed to take notice. After a few laps on MF, I went to that little souvenir stand by the MF exit, and bought a strap. The attendant said, "I like the one you got just fine."
Just thought I'd share that memory with y'all.
