Gemini's Second Entrance

Did Gemini have it's second entrance (front of the train?)when it opened in 78'?

No. That was part of the reason they couldn't run at full capacity in '78.

Oh, technically the second entrance is the one at the BACK of the train. That's the entrance that was added in '79.

The basic problem--
Gemini's capacity: 3,400 PPH
Capacity of one entrance: 2,400 PPH

There should be no problem running six trains with only one entrance but for some reason, people like to just stand there and not move. ;)

Dave, I am not sure you are correct about that...I do believe BOTH entrances where in place when Gemini opened. The problem came from "people stacking" at the FRONT waiting for the first car. Also, the WIDTH of the ques limited the number of people (it was a single file que) and that is why MOST days, the line was on the Midway instead of in the queus. I believe the width of the ques was changed summer of '82 or '83...
I could be wrong, certainly (it wouldn't be the first time...), but I had thought the queue was redone for the second season and the stairway added to the back of the station. Looking at the design of the station curbs and the like, you can tell the back of the station was changed at some point to add the back entrance; I thought that change didn't happen until at least '79.

Notice that Gemini has a double-wide queue from the turnstiles (note the plural) up to the 'decision point' and then a pair of single-file queues from there to the platform.

Brent: There is an added problem with running six trains and only one queue. Even if people don't stack at the entrance, they can only climb the stairs 'so fast'. Eventually, if six trains are running, you're going to find that people can't physically make it to the platform fast enough to keep the trains full.
