GEMINI turns 30 and now we really got a race on our hands...

Well for atleast the last couple years i have noticed that Gemini has not been a great race. But now that it has turned 30 years old i have noticed that everytime i ride the race is alot closer. I was at CP monday and rode Gemini 5 time because it was so much fun. dont get me wrong its a fun ride without the race but When you can Hi-Five everyone on every corner and hill its so much more fun. I also noticed that all the Trim breaks were open. I surly hope they continue with this because it becoming one of my favorites again.

But my question is...

Dose anyone know why its alot closer race now then it has been.

Because its not much of a race when only one side is open. ;)

Its probably a combination of things since they dropped to 4-train op after the air-gates were installed.

Yesterday when i was in the train and getting ready to take off, the other blue train entered the final breaks so hard that it shook the entire station that one of the ceiling lights fell off and slammed into the ground and exploded. Glass went everywhere, luckily no one was hurt, and also we won the race.

Second, yesterday there was no race because the blue train was in front of the red train by about 10 seconds, and after the fist hill the red didn't catch up until the final breaks.

What a day :)

Yeah, when the train hits the brakes behind the station when the trims are open it is one of the hardest stops I have experienced on any coaster ever.

It's nice to see that they are finally running Gemini better and that it's more like it used to be, hopefully this will keep up for a while more. Maybe even 30 more years.

^^ - which is why you better pray that the ops are hitting interval when you see that the trims are off.

I thought it was hilarious when we came into the breaks at the end of the ride, and every single person when, "UGH!" all at once because it jerked us so bad. lol.

"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"

Its kinda sad, gemini ran like clockwork with 6 trains when i worked at the point in the mid 80's. No seat belts or air gates, was never more than a 20 minute wait on a crowded saturday. The gemini girls were the best crew back then!

No seat belts!?! Do you mean that the seat belts weren't the same as they are today?

An inverted coaster is like a ski lift gone haywire!!

No, he means that there were no seatbelts at all on the ride. Not terribly uncommon in the era before lawyers took over.

Does that mean that by the year 2015 we won't have to deal with seat belts on rides anymore? According To Doc Brown, we'll have gotten rid of all the lawyers by then.

I also remember riding the gemini with no seat belts. And riding the blue

streak with no seat belts. With today, people wanting to take everybody

to court, it is the parks protecting themselves from legal action.

Can't blame them

Ah...no seat belts on Blue Streak. That would be nice. Though I don't remember Gemeni ever being a close race, last month i'm used to the blue train ALWAYS winning, but the red train one. It was weird. Does the blue train always win?

This year and the end of last year i noticed that the Blue train wins almost every time. Previous to the 2008 season it seemed otherwise though. This year red doesn't get close enough going up the lift. Previous years it was always 2 cars behind blue everytime, now it seems like it is 3 to 31/2 behind every time. Could have something to do with the off-season when they work on the trains, but that could be a little far-fatched.
It is sooooo fun at night until they go down to one train because the trims are off, on both sides and everyone is yelling for there train to win, and everyone slaps hands. But even with one side, the ops are usually really enthusiastic, and one of them was counting the number of times we rode it in a row.
