Gemini running with one side backwards?

There used to be a small park near me called Crystal Beach. It was located in Canada. Anyways, it had a coaster called "the Comet," and one year they decided to have half the train face backwards and the other half face forwards. That was so cool. I remember me and my husband riding it several times facing one another...of course, I was the one who had to go backwards! That is one of my favorite memories about the park. Unfortunately, it no longer exists, and victorian townhomes and upscale condos now occupy the land. The Comet, however, has moved to SF Great Escape, but I haven't ever been there, and don't plan to. Don't know if they run it backwards/forwards either. I think doing one car backwards and one forwards on the Gemini would be a good idea.

I've always wondered why can't CP build the tallest coaster ever, and if some park beats the height, why can't they just add- on to theirs? Is that even possible? I just thought that that way, they'd always have the tallest one in the world.

it is a racing coaster how can you tell if your winning if your looking the wrong direction. a classic like gemini shouldn't be changed it is awesome now!!
If I want to I just turn around, I do it on all of the rides. Its fun to turn around and watch people that have never riden that ride before. I did that on magnum to some people that I didn't even know, wow that was some funny stuff.

Speaking of Arrow's run backwards, Viper at SFMM was run backwards for a short time a long time ago. B&M wooden trains can also be run backwards as they have been run that way on both wooden coasters at SFMM. It's because of this I think it's possible to change around Gemini, but it wouldn't be that easiy.

B&M Wood trains?

Anyway... I supose it could be possible to make it run backwards (eventualy, if you changed enough). I think I would be freaking out going down the drop backwards though.

Hey wow. A topic I started a long time ago under my old name. Gemini almost ran backwards this morning when it stalled in the second turn around. I don't know what Arrow was thinking when they designed that ride with the slow turns...

It could be done. There are Arrow mine trains (Thudneration) that run at least partially backwards -- and those are bascially the same as Gemini's running stock. You'd need to switch the brake fin side around, though.
Actually, Arrow's brake fin runs right down the center of the train, so that wouldn't be a problem. Earlier in this thread I noted the simple way that Silver Dollar City did it by just reversing the non-dog 2-hitch cars of the train...although Gemini's 5-car trains only have one car (#3) that could be easily reversed. It's all in this thread. The one thing that would have to be changed is the lap bar release linkage.

Oh, and on Gemini, all 30 cars have the lap bar release lever in the same place on the bottom.

I don't think this has been mentioned yet, but a friend of mine told me that he heard somewhere that the Gemini's 25th anniversary was coming up next year, and for it, the park was going to reverse one of the trains. Personally, I think it would be awesome because you would get two awesome rides from the same coaster. Unfortunately, I don't really believe him because he could never prove it.
