50' Super-8 film rolls give you 3:20 at 18 FPS, which is standard for silent shooting. You can go a little longer in regular 8mm because the frame rate for silent is 16 FPS, but it doesn't really help because for 8mm you get 25' rolls that have to be flipped over, plus you get a smaller frame. Sound film was supposed to be shot at 24 FPS, which gives you 2:30 for your 50' roll.
Editing single-system sound film is a bit of a challenge, as the sound track is physically offset from the picture by 24 frames. In the clip, it looks like the clip might have had sound added after it was cut, but before it was put on video.
The first time I ever heard someone say anything about not using a camera on a ride was on the Wave Swinger in 1982. Prior to that it wasn't a matter of cameras being permitted on the rides, it was a matter of them not being forbidden on the rides. There is a slight difference there. :)

That is a great video. I wish I could go ride right now... stupid 2000+ mile drive...

you were actually aloud to have cameras on the ride back in the day?I doubt it...i'm assuming this was always "illegal" at the point...
Actually, I don't think it was illegal back then. I know my uncle still has an old reel to reel movie on-ride for the Racers at Kings Island.
