There is a official letter saying that geauga lake will only be a water park attraction in 2008.
sorry if its posted elsewhere
GATEKEEPER-I came, I rode, I was mildly disappointed; until a second ride (rear left) put GateKeeper back on the...it's a nice ride list.
that just makes me sad knowing i used to work there years ago and now it will be no more rides. but i knew that this was going to happen, especially when CF bought GL, it was a conflict of interest, you have two parks too close to each other, especially when CP has the bigger rides.
this just breaks my heart, guess i need to go to GL one last time before it closes this year.
If your not having fun, what are you having? Have Fun !!!
Well you can't because they already closed for the season. I am truly a die hard Cedar Point fan but with what is being done with GL I might not be buying my season pass like I always do :( *** Edited 9/21/2007 7:59:56 PM UTC by Ohiocoasterman18***

Sea World was the life-line of that park.
After it was removed, no amount of rides were going to draw the crowds. The park will be better off as a water-park only.

I know of a certain user on this site that will be absolutely devastated by this news.
This is very, very sad, but I can't say I didn't see it coming.
I know Dominator and Thunderhawk will find new homes fast, but what will be come of the Dipper, I wonder? I hate the ride, personally, but it really is a piece of history.
I have a gut feeling that Wolf Bobs isn't going to be moved.
It's called Millennium Force, not "Millenium" Force. Thanks.
I want the kiddie coaster which was by the villain and across from the bumper cars to go to MiA. I think it'd be an awesome fit.
I wouldn't be suprised to see work on the coaster happening soon here. It's just too bad that the ride side of the park is closing. Something was going up since they were taking out alot of stuff over the last year. Many of CF's parks will be getting new coaster in 2008 or 2009.
This is a bad thought that just came into my head. They took out the coasters that they wanted to keep and their tearing down the rest. Horrible thought, I know. Relocations, please instead!

I have to add that I did drive 3 hours to go to an amusement park, but it is very unlikely I will drive 3 hours to go to a waterpark.
I hope this works out for them. depressing.:(

Wow - who saw this coming? Jeff and Walts complete silence on the matter clinched it for me - ding ding ding.
It amazes me how many people think Walt and Jeff have some sort of insider information, or get to sit in on the Cedar Fair board meetings.
Aside from Jeff's recent zoning variance being approved so he can put a helicopter pad in his backyard, there is no evidence that either gets information.

Coasterdad - I assume you'll be submitting a domain name change request for wildwaterkingdomtoday.com? :)
My thougts from CB:
Hmmm...sorry to hear that what was anticipated by many has become reality. I'm sad, hurt and a little angry...though I'm not sure who I'm most upset with.
You can blame the old Funtime folks who wouldn't work with Anheuser-Busch and allow Sea World to dip their toes into the ride business.
You can blame Kinzel for not buying Geauga Lake back in the 70s when he had his first chance.
Certainly Premier/Six Flags deserves a BIG chunk of the blame for just decimating the goodwill that existed for Geauga Lake. The people of Cleveland/Akron know good service vs. bad.
You can blame Kinzel for some of the bonehead decisions he made that first season when he came out like a hard a$$ against programs that were popular just to save a buck or two.
You can blame the officials of the surrounding communities who were steadfast in their height requirements, of limited help with the roads/traffic, and generally combative toward any of the parks' owners.
Hey, if they really do right by the water park it could be a great thing. Schlitterbahn doesn't have mechanical rides and it is pretty darn popular. Throw in some of the newer water park attractions like surf riders and master blasters and they will be on to something.
But, as a former childhood and teen fan of the park; as a former employee; as a historian of the amusement industry...well...this just makes me want to cry.
It is a sad day indeed.

I suspect you will see the "dry" side sold off along with the land the parking lot sits on and it will be redeveloped as residential and/or commercial.
