Geauga Lake Launches new website.

I think CF has already decided to shut this place down next year, year after that at the latest. Why?

1. If you look at the real estate listing for the property, this is a big tip off they aren't planning on keeping the water park much longer. Literally all the land around the park is being sold, even the old Happy Harbor area (which I might add is about 10 feet from the Thunder Falls slide complex). This sale leaves the park no room for expansion, and given how small the place currently is, I'd say they aren't holding a lot of faith the park will do well. Plus if all that land is developed so close to the water park, it will turn off people anyways.

2. The park, as said above, is incredibly small. If you've been there you know what I mean. Now, as most people know, the original plans for the park were to make it huge with numerous slide complexes, etc. If CF was really serious about making this park work, wouldn't you think they would have offset the bad news about the closing of GL by announcing a new slide complex for the water park (or even a Flow Rider or something)? It's not like the park has a lot of stuff to do at the moment... And a slide complex / water attraction isn't that expensive and can be added quickly.

They actually are keeping the land all the way up to the back of wolf bobs and all of the sea world area.

I think that the park will do well this year. I have seen more billboards than I ever did with geauga lake.
Next year will bring slides. Thats my prediction.

Yeah, dj, I'm not sure what entities aren't dramatically impacted by the slump. Builders and developers all the way up to the size of Toll Brothers are getting hammered. The business I work in is housing-related, and we're down 40% just from last year.

I could be wrong, but I think this is more the norm, and the situation you described is the exception.

That's certainly not the case around here. There are countless residential developments that not only continued construction, but also newer ones that have started more recently.

Thanks for posting the updated pic of the land for sale. I had not seen that yet. That picture makes me feel a little better about the future of the water park.

Because a good business plan always involves intentionally losing money so you have an "excuse" to close something down.

That's not at all what I was suggesting. I agree with what CF said when they closed GL. GL was probably losing money, and the water park was probably the lifeline for the whole place. I'm not arguing with that. What I am saying is that in my opinion, I don't think that once the water park season gets underway without GL, the water park will make enough money for CF to consider it valuable enough to stay open. I could very easily see them shutting WWK down in favor of selling more property and sending the slides to the aging Soak City (which may be more profitable in the end). I'd love to see the water park remain open and succeed, but frankly I don't see many signs that show me CF is truly dedicated to this place in the long run. If you do then please, bring them forth.

Now I will agree that the newly proposed allotment of land makes me feel better about the whole thing. At least now you can see there is some room into which they could expand. Again I'd love it if WWK thrived and became a huge water park. I'd go to it often as what they have now is great! It's just somewhat on the small side.

Thrills Around the Corner!

Right next to where I live (seriously, if you go to the park, you can walk up to a fence that's just a few feet from one of the new buildings), they're building new condos. Going down into downtown Walled Lake, in Wixom, and various other places, new housing is still being constructed.

All over, really, new housing is going up. Which, at least until you consider the possibility that they are indeed planning on waiting this slump out, seems really, really weird.

^^Oh yeah WWK is way too small! I would also love it if they did build it to become a huge water park. They just sold off too much land for even dreaming that.
